They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but we wonder what good is a picture when you can’t recognize the subject? Above is a snapshot of a future star of soaps, but can you guess who this fair-haired teen grew up to be?
Obviously this young lady (now all grown up) is either an alum of, or an actress currently starring on, one of the four remaining soaps – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless. But that’s probably not much of a hint.
So try these on for size. She is a soap hopper (with at least three serials to her credit) who began her career by appearing in a cult classic slasher film. She is also a Daytime Emmy Award-winning performer and a published authoress.
But who can she be? Is this a photograph of Jennifer Gareis (Donna Logan, BB), Judi Evans (ex-Adrienne Johnson Kiriakis, DAYS), Cynthia Watros (Nina Reeves, GH), or Eileen Davidson (Ashely Abbott, YR)?
Gareis’s career began with an uncredited appearance in the Barbra Streisand/Jeff Bridges starring romance film The Mirror Has Two Faces. And though she is well known for her work on BB, she also played Grace Turner on YR. So she’s not today’s featured player.
No, Evans also isn’t today’s mystery teen. However, it does seem that the term “soap hopper” could have been invented to describe her career trajectory. Her first job was at Guiding Light, where she originated the part of Beth Raines – and won a Daytime Emmy for her efforts.
Then it was off to Days of our Lives where she played Adrienne Johnson (on and off) from 1986 to 2019. She’s also appeared on Another World (as Paulina Cory Carlino) and As the World Turns (as Maeve Stone). And between 2003 and 2007, she was back at DAYS playing Bonnie Lockhart – a role which she reprised from 2017 to 2018.
Sure, Watros has appeared in quite a few soaps – Guiding Light (ex-R.N. Annie Dutton), Another World (temporary Vicky Hudson recast), YR (ex-Kelly Andrews) and GH. And yes, she did receive the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress for her work at GL. But she isn’t today’s featured star.
Davidson’s first professional credit was the creeptastic The House on Sorority Row (and no, her character does not survive the bloody purge). However, that film would not be released until after Davidson became known for her work at YR.
Her other daytime credits include roles on Santa Barbara (ex-Kelly Capwell), Days of our Lives (ex-Kristen DiMera; ex-Susan and all of her siblings), and The Bold and the Beautiful (where she reprised her Ashley Abbott role).
Davidson has received four Daytime Emmy Award nominations for her work and won twice (both in the Outstanding Lead Actress category). Outside of her acting, Davidson is also known for her writing. Between 2008 and 2011, she co-authored four mystery novels set in the world of daytime.
So, if you hazarded a guess that the featured image might be of a young Eileen Davidson, then you were right on the money!
