The Young and the Restless Star Richard Burgi Reveals Instagram Imposter

One of the problems of being famous is that there are unscrupulous people out there who look to capitalize on someone else’s popularity, and that’s been a big cause of concern to celebs who have been the victim of social media fraud. The latest actor to experience problems is The Young and the Restless star Richard Burgi, who revealed that someone has been posing as him.

Richard Burgi’s Social Media Imposter

The actor took to his real Instagram account to warn his followers about several fakes out there in social media who are pretending to be him — and he doesn’t like it one bit.

“There have been fake accounts pretending to be me and privately direct messaging people,” he wrote on his actual Instagram account, with the handle, dick_burgi. “That is not me and I’m sorry if that has happened to you, please report it! This is my Instagram. Maybe a blue tick might be needed. People that are creating fake profiles need to get a life hope you all have a beautiful Tuesday.”

In response to his post, Burgi’s friend, actor Seamus Dever, the former Dr. Ian Devlin on General Hospital, who starred as Detective Kevin Ryan in ABC’s hit Castle, joked, “Wait, who did I just send pictures of my feet to? That wasn’t you?”

Burgi had appeared in the Castle episode, “Heartbreak Hotel” and shared many scenes with Dever. Noticing that his friend was verified with the blue checkmark, Burgi asked him how to go about getting that. He answered that a publicist set him up, but another of Burgi’s followers offered him a detailed explanation.

“There is a place in your settings that you can request to be “official”. It takes a little time and you have to send pictures of your drivers license,” she explained. “I will DM photos of where to find this, good luck!”

While his YR character Ashland Locke may be ruthless, even he wouldn’t do something as sinister as creating a fake Instagram account. Burgi wants to make sure that his fans aren’t taken advantage of and invites them to follow his real account, where he often talks about what’s going on in his life.
