She’s gone from The Young and the Restless as Mia, but fans of Noemí González, who played Rey’s dynamic ex, can be seen tonight in a streaming series that’s returning for a second season.
González plays Suzette Quintanilla, the sister of deceased singer Selena, in Selena: The Series, available now on Netflix. The program tells the tale of Selena’s rise to fame and the sacrifices she and her family made. Suzette performed along with her sister, playing drums, percussion, and providing backup vocals.
“I loved performance days,” González posted on Instagram. “I was always nervous, but with every rehearsal and every take I focused on letting go and enjoying the connection. I connected to my instrument. Not only the beautifully demanding drums, but more importantly, my body.
“I found myself connecting to Selena’s music in a way I never anticipated,” she continued. “Like in acting, I asked God to be a vessel for the craft and music so that I can honor it all. So that I may have the honor to give everyone a great show!! To have a good time!! To connect with the audience I learned so much. And it was so much FUN. I’ll always look back with a big goofy smile on my face. Gracias Selena Gracias Quintanilla Family Gracias Campanario Entertainment & Netflix.”
Selena’s life was cut tragically short after Yolanda Saldívar (the former manager of Selena Etc. boutiques), shot and killed her. Saldívar was convicted and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years.
González aired on YR from 2018-19. Mia stirred up a bit of trouble during her short stay in Genoa City, sleeping with her ex, Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) only to call out the name of his brother Arturo (Jason Canela) in the heat of the moment. Mia coldly, impulsively, and callously pushed “Abby” (Melissa Ordway) into the Abbott pool in December (that’s cold!), only it wasn’t Abby who took the plunge but rather Mia’s own ex-sister-in-law Lola (Sasha Calle).
Rey did his best to keep his ex from going to jail especially after finding out that she was pregnant. Mia and Arturo (the baby’s dad) returned to Miami where she gave birth to their son Matteo. Selena: The Series is streaming on Netflix now. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
