The Young and the Restless Star Judith Chapman Back As Gloria

Her visits are far too infrequent for fans of The Young and the Restless. But, fortunately, one is on the horizon. We’re talking about Judith Chapman reprising her role as Gloria Fisher Abbott Bardwell.

Judith Chapman Makes Her GC Return

According to Soap Opera Digest, Chapman will be back onscreen on the CBS soap sometime in October for a “surprise” visit.

The actress made her soap opera debut as Natalie Bannon on As the Worlds from 1975 to 1978. Chapman also made appearances in primetime episodic shows but she wasn’t done with daytime after exiting Oakdale. In 1983, she brought to life the role of Charlotte Greer on Ryan’s Hope.

Next, she took on the unenviable task of playing Ginny Blake on General Hospital in 1984. Why unenviable? Ginny was the birth mother of Mike Webber (David Mendenhall), who’d been adopted by Rick (Chris Robinson) and Lesley (Denise Alexander).

Her next stop was Salem. Judith Chapman played Days of our Lives’ Anjelica Deveraux, replacing Shelly Taylor Morgan (ex-Lorena, GH) in the part. In the 1990s, Chapman slipped into some roles on the crime drama Silk Stalkings and began focusing on directing.

However, in 2005, when Joan Van Ark (ex-Valene, Knots Landing) opted to vacate the part of Gloria on The Young and the Restless, several high-profile actresses came in to audition for the coveted gig. Chapman gave a powerful reading and made the producers’ choice a simple one. She’s played the role on and off ever since.

Fans got a treat earlier this year when Gloria was featured in a Fisher-Baldwin week of classic episodes. We got to see her with her husband, John, as well as her first husband, who had become a spiritual guru. What’s Gloria up to this time? We’re sure whatever it is, it will be fun. Tune in to find out!
