Eric Braeden may be lying in a hospital bed on The Young and the Restless, but the actor has something to be happy about! The Emmy-winning actor is making some birthday wishes!
The actor was born in Bredenbek, Germany on April 3. He emigrated to the United States in 1959.
In the 1960s, he became a fixture on television, often being cast as a German soldier. In fact, he landed a series regular role as Captain Hans Dietrich on the TV series The Rat Patrol.
The actor switched from his birth name – Hans-Jörg Gudegast to calling himself Eric Braeden — for his starring role in the film Colossus: The Forbin Project in 1970.
Braeden appeared on several TV shows throughout the 1970s including The Six Million Dollar Man, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Wonder Woman.
Seeking a more fleshed out character that he could play on an on-going basis, Braeden accepted the role of Victor Newman on Y&R. The original plan was to have Julia (Meg Bennett) kill her controlling husband, but head writer Bill Bell, enthralled with Braeden’s performance, altered the story to keep Victor on the canvas.
And the rest, as they say, is history!
Along with his long-running role on Y&R, Braeden appeared in the film Titanic as Colonel John Jacob Astor IV. Braeden’s autobiography, I’ll Be Damned, was published by Harper Collins in 2017.
The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
