First the bad news: As of this Friday, The Young and the Restless will be out of new episodes. Now the good news: Starting next week, they will be running classic episodes.
More good news: This forced break could give the show exactly the time they need to take a good, hard look at the current canvas, see what’s working, see what isn’t, and come back stronger than ever. By cutting the deadwood.
Are viewers really enjoying Adam (Mark Grossman) getting the best of Victor (Eric Braeden), not to mention shoving Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) to the side, while Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) gazes upon him adoringly and spurs him on?
Will ratings ever rise while Jack’s (Peter Bergman) main function in life is to tell Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Theo (Tyler Johnson) to play nicely? Why does this handsome, wealthy stud not have a love interest? Or eight?
Is Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) really at her best when she’s scheming to get back some hotel shares, reuniting with Nick, and sparring with Abby (Melissa Ordway) like middle-schoolers? Shouldn’t she be driving story instead of constantly reacting to it?
What are Billy (Jason Thompson), Lily (Christel Khalil), Traci (Beth Maitland), Jill (Jess Walton), and now Amanda (Mishael Morgan) doing at this new company of theirs? What does it do? And how does watching them all pour over spreadsheets, social media posts, and legal briefs make for exciting television?
Devon (Bryton James) and Elena (Brytni Sarpy)? Lola (Sasha Calle) and Theo? Sharon (Sharon Case) and Rey (Jordi Vilasuso)? All of these pairings have potential. But are any of them living up to it? YR should think long and hard about how to spice these pairings up by the time we’re all reunited again.
Tell us in the poll below what story you want to see dropped or changed. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
