Everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of The Young and the Restless week that was.
Sinners in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. But YR is populated by a whole host of hypocrites. Summer’s (Hunter King) a thief and cyber bullier. And, despite everyone wanting to paint Billy (Jason Thompson) as the town pervert, she’s the twentysomething who made a bet that she could seduce her mother’s lover. But in spite of all her misdeeds, Summer still thinks that she’s in a position to pass judgment on Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). Thank goodness she took Phyliss’s (Michelle Stafford) sound advice to be magnanimous…Sally’s a shark with a killer instinct.
Devon (Bryton James) spent months playing the injured party whose world was upended by a randy relative. So what does he turn around and do? Sleep with Elena (Brytni Sarpy) at the first available opportunity! Guess Amanda (Mishael Morgan) won’t be getting that kiss anytime soon.
Abby (Melissa Ordway) made a living out of taking from others. She stole her niece’s lover, Sharon’s (Sharon Chase) lover, Phyllis’s hotel, her trust fund out from under the watchful eye of her father (well, we’ll give her that one) and now she wants Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) womb. Mariah, the woman that Abby once had arrested in an attempt to keep her out of the life of an ex that Abby wanted for herself. Yes, this is the perfect match.
And speaking of Sharon, there’s just something so utterly frustrating about watching her sermonize to Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind) about how she should be conducting her life when she’s continually putting Adam (Mark Grossman) and his needs above everyone else’s.
Maybe Faith would be more inclined to open up to her mother and take her advice if she didn’t see her hanging around with the man who abducted her during her infancy. Maybe Rey (Jordan Vilasuso) would be a bit more trusting if his wife didn’t constantly ignore his concerns and immerse herself in Adam’s life.
And even though we’d never claim that Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) was a blameless victim, we can’t help but root for her and her desire to give Sharon a good throttle.
* Speaking of Chelsea, the addition of her internal monologue is just what the doctor ordered…pun intended.
* Anybody else here for the bourgeoning friendship between Lily (Christel Khalil) and Amanda? The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
