The Young and the Restless recap for June 1-5, 2020, features a dip into the soap’s archives and a celebration of the raucous Abbott clan.
Last week was all about the troublemakers. This week, the Abbott family (and their plethora of troubles) took center stage. There was tension galore, humiliation, and a few stirring triumphs. And there was a whole lotta love.
Weddings are supposed to be happy occasions. But on the day that Brad (Don Diamont) and Traci (Beth Maitland) said, “I Do” (for the second time), there was nothing but problems, problems, problems.
The bride wasn’t happy with the attention her groom was giving Ashley (Brenda Epperson). Dina’s (Marla Adams) presence had pushed Jill (Jess Walton), to quote Katherine (Jeanne Cooper) “all the way to tilt.” And Jack (Peter Bergman) was doing his utmost to quell Niki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) rapidly progressing alcoholism.
Luckily, the ceremony went off without a hitch. But at the reception, Jack caught Nikki downing some iced vodka and hit the roof. She was escorted out, sent home to a ranch equipped with a fully stocked bar (that’ll show her!) and Jack in turn sulked for the remainder of the party. At least Brad and Traci had a few minutes of bliss. You know, before the whole divorce thing.
Back in the day, Jack made what can only be described as a small whoopsie. It didn’t cost him much, but it did result in John (Jerry Douglas) losing the controlling interest of the company he built from the ground up. Now, over a decade later, Jack was able to right that wrong and return Jabot to the family fold.
The one thing you don’t want to hear after proposing marriage is the word “no.” But a close second would be total silence followed by the woman you asked running away. The latter happened to poor Jack. And it happened in front of half the town.
In explanation, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), said that the marriage wouldn’t work. She insisted that it wouldn’t. But Jack persevered. And he got his “yes.” But hindsight says he should have respected Red’s gut instinct.
It was a black day when John Abbott died. But the day of his memorial service wasn’t much better. Sure, the kids got to grieve together and speak about the man that they had all loved so dearly. But, then they had to deal with a grief-stricken Gloria (Judith Chapman) who revealed that Jack had purposefully kept her from attending the event. She wasn’t happy. Jack didn’t care. And Ashley and Traci just cried even harder.
Christmas is supposed to be a time of cheer and goodwill extended to all. So in that spirit, Ashley and Jack buried the hatchet (you know after she tried to make him think that John wasn’t his father and he tried to hide the fact that she owned all the patents for her creations). So did sudden cousins Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Theo (Tyler Johnson). It also got Traci in a singing mood.
Were you surprised to see how sparsely attended Brad and Traci’s wedding was? Where were her former bandmates Danny (Michael Damian) – who was also an ex-husband – and Gina (Patty Weaver)? Where was Katherine (Jeanne Cooper)? And who was watching baby Colleen?
Billy: “I hate ties.” Jill: “You’ll get used to it honey.” Billy: “Never!” Spoiler alert: Billy was right. He never did. The Yong and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
