A lack of proper pacing – it’s a common complaint that’s frequently leveled at the four remaining daytime dramas. However, CBS powerhouse The Young and the Restless is the soap that currently stands accused of being the most slow-moving and… dare we say… boring. Here’s what 8,000 viewers had to say about the charge:
Over 90% of you found Y&R guilty of being a snooze fest. In fact, some even wondered what in the world was actually going on. It seems to you that this soap only has one real storyline to speak of and that’s Sharon’s (Sharon Case) battle with breast cancer – a plot point that is only about two weeks old.
Everything else, you argue, is going absolutely nowhere. The mystery surrounding Chance (Donny Boaz) and Adam’s (Mark Grossman) Las Vegas dealings have been running for so long that you’re not sure you even care what the payoff will be.
Your angry that all the writers have Devon (Bryton James) doing is talking about the money that was stolen from him MONTHS ago and the immense interest you had in learning the secrets being kept by Hilary’s doppelganger Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) has waned.
And you are definitely through with the eye-rolling, interminable arc that is Kola vs Theo (Tyler Johnson) and Summer (Hunter King).
Still, there are 10% who calmly believe, “Hang on, I’m seeing progress and forward momentum.” You’re liking the new wrinkle to the Sin City Caper – just who is this missing “she” and why is Adam paying her off. You also point out that the soap has just cast the man whom Amanda claimed was an abusive stalker – surely that storyline is about to heat up.
You’re also excited at the news that Summer is about to make a play for her former hubby – an action that will no doubt thrust the twenty-something quad into high gear with some high drama.
And many of you who voted in favor of YR also remind us that YR’s bread and butter has always been slow-moving, intricate, and evocative plots. It took nearly a full year to unmask George Rawlins’s killer so you are fine with waiting on answers about what went down in Nevada.
And Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Ashley (Eileen Davidson) continued to still fight over Victor (Eric Braeden), decades after the initial battle, so you have no doubt that the Summer/Kyle/Theo roundabout will continue just as long. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
