With an out-of-control pandemic and social unrest permeating the minds of many in America, Eric Braeden took time to reflect on what America means to him as an immigrant who arrived in the United States from Germany in the 1950s.
Braeden admitted in a Twitter video that he was having trouble getting into the spirit of Independence Day this weekend. But then he remembered the moment he first arrived in America and how glorious it was.
First, he tweeted these words: “THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING, WOW!! This is where I had my first CHEESEBURGER & CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE…. in 1959!!! Brings tears to my eyes!! Had just turned 18 and stepped on AMERICAN SOIL off the BOAT!! WOW, how time flies!!!”
He soon tweeted a video recalling the same event, but also thinking of today’s times. “All of this Fourth of July stuff is getting to me. And now they’re showing fireworks from New York [and] The Empire State Building. And I remember 1959. I had just stepped off the boat from Germany. And I went to The Empire State Building and had my first cheeseburger and chocolate milkshake.”
You could see the emotion on Braeden’s face as he recalled that glorious moment in his life when he was just a teenager. He concluded his video with his love for the country that he has called home for more than 60 years. “What a great country we live in,” he said, as he held up his fist in what looked to be a sign of strength. He concluded with a simple “God bless America.”
