It was a July 4th celebration like the country has never seen as many locations and beaches that normally are bustling with activity were empty due to the rising numbers of coronavirus cases. But like most Americans, soap stars still found a way to make the day special.

Soap Stars Celebrate July 4

Los Angeles County, where a majority of the soap actors and crew members live, has been especially hit hard by the latest surge. So while traditional ways to mark the nation’s independence weren’t available, that didn’t stop the stars from finding ways to celebrate and wish their fans a happy holiday as well.

This is also a year where many have seen that not everyone enjoys the same freedom, and it’s made many think about the holiday differently. Daytime Emmy-winning actor Greg Vaughan (Eric, Days of our Lives) shared a picture of the flag saying, “Happy 4th !! WE need you Old Glory to be the AMERICA we believe in as ONE NATION under GOD, INDIVISIBLE, w/ LIBERTY & JUSTICE for ALL!”

For Daniel Goddard (ex-Cane, The Young and the Restless), this was his first 4th as a U.S. citizen. He shared a picture of himself with the flag saying, “My first #IndependenceDay as a United States Citizen! What an honor! Happy 4th of July my fellow Americans!” See what other soap stars had to say about the holiday and the images they shared below.

More on Soap Opera History

Soap opera began in the early 1900s, as radio broadcasts. Soap companies were behind the conception of the daytime dramas because they wanted to sell soaps to stay-at-home-moms. They did their job and also launched a lifelong programming format, the soap operas.

Spanning more than five decades, American sudsers have seen the rise and fall of daytime soaps. In the heyday of soaps in the early 1980s, there were up to 13 different soap operas broadcasted. However, over the years, the number has declined. Currently, there are only four American soap operas on the air.

Bringing the Drama

The four remaining soap operas currently on the air include Days of our Lives, The Young and the Restless (YR), General Hospital (GH), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). Check your local listings for air times.
