We finally met Amanda’s (and Hilary’s) biological mother on The Young and the Restless in scenes that broke our hearts right along with Amanda. Social media was abuzz yesterday with praise for actress Mishael Morgan, with many wondering why the actress had ever been let go from the show to begin with.
“You’re missing out if you’re not watching these scenes with Amanda and her birth mother,” tweeted the soap’s official Twitter account, along with a GIF of an angry Amanda.
Morgan responded to the tweet with: “Don’t miss out. Thanks for all the heartfelt comments. I really wanted to do this storyline justice for every person who felt this kind of abandonment. It was my honour.”
Indeed, it was something to see as Amanda broke down in anger at the woman who gave birth to her and even told her about the twin sister she never met. The look on her face when her half-sister, Imani (Leigh Ann Rose), showed up to fetch their mother and Naya (Ptosha Storey) just left with the daughter she never gave away said it all.
Today, Amanda turns to Devon (Bryton James) for comfort, but not only the friendly kind. He tells her to give Naya time and warns her she may not have the relationship with her biological mother that she dreams of, just as he does not have the relationship with his father, Tucker, as he’d like.
In 2018, Morgan’s Hilary was killed off in a car accident caused by Lily (Christel Khalil) and fans were outraged — so outraged that by 2019, YR had to hire her back, first as Hilary’s ghost and later as lawyer Amanda Sinclair, a dead-ringer for Hilary who later turned out to be her twin. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
