The Young and the Restless created lots of fiery drama throughout the years. Of course, New Year’s is known for fireworks, but that’s not the only time in Genoa City that sparks fly. So in honor of sending out the old and ringing in the new, we’re taking a look at some of the all-time best explosions in the show’s history.

Young and the Restless Explosive Moments

Nikki Reed is Kidnapped
In 1981, Nikki Reed (Melody Thomas Scott) figured out that her neighbor Edward (Paul Tulley) stalked her sister Casey Reed (Roberta Leighton). He loved Nikki, so he kidnapped her and threatened to blow them both up with dynamite so that he could have her for all eternity. Edward admitted that he’d tried to do away with all the men in Nikki’s life during the dramatic moments. Ultimately, Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) rescued Nikki, but Edward died in the explosion.

Clear Springs Explosion
Billed as “Out of the Ashes,” this is one of the most explosive storylines in The Young and the Restless history. The Clear Springs Resort and Casino collapsed after an underground parking garage explosion.  Many residents, including Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper), Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman), and others, ended up trapped in the rubble.

Adam ‘Dies’ in the Masquerade Ball Explosion
In April 2010, a masquerade ball at The Athletic Club ended in a dramatic explosion that left Adam Newman (then Michael Muhney) presumed dead after he’d escaped the hospital.

However, shortly before the explosion, Adam once again told Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) the sordid details of taking Faith Newman and passing her off as Ashley Abbott’s (Eileen Davidson) child. After learning the truth, Sharon told him he was dead to her, and she gave him her wedding ring. A dead body was positively identified as Adam’s, but later it turned out to be Richard Hightower, who had Adam’s DNA after Adam donated his bone marrow to the man.

Halloween Party Explosion
During a Halloween Party honoring Delia Abbott and the Delia Project foundation at Newman Towers, a fire ended up causing an explosion that involved many of the city’s children and left others fighting for their lives. Thankfully, the children survived the shocking ending to Mariah Copeland’s spooky tale that Halloween.

Cabin Exploded with Adam Newman Inside
Another time Adam (then Justin Hartley) “died” in an explosion was in 2017 after Adam pleaded guilty to a crime and received a prison sentence. Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) teamed up with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) to ambush the prison transport and take Adam. While Victor hoped to help Adam and Chelsea escape, instead, Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson), distraught over Adam having killed her daughter Delia, tranquilized Adam and blew up the cabin just as Chelsea arrived with Connor. Once more, DNA “proved” Adam perished in the blast, but he survived to return a couple of years later.
