The Young and the Restless recap for June 22-26, 2020 features a special week dedicated to Daytime Emmy Award-winning performances.
In the lead up to the 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards (which aired Friday, June 26) YR presented five episodes featuring material that won a particular actor the coveted statuette.
Why would someone like Traci Abbott try and kill herself? That’s the question Cricket Blair (Lauralee Bell) asked after she helped to rescue the young woman from impending death. In short, it’s because the college coed was pregnant with her professor’s child and she recently discovered him having sex with another student.
Beth Maitland’s stunning turn as the despondent mother-to-be, who felt that suicide was her own recourse, resulted in a big win at the 1985 Daytime Emmy Award Ceremony. In fact, Maitland nabbing of the Outstanding Supporting Actress statuette meant that she had become the soap’s very first Daytime Emmy Award winner!
Eric Braeden’s award-winning turn as Victor Newman was spotlighted in Tuesday’s showing. In that episode, Victor doubled down on his promise to Hope Adams (Signy Coleman) that he would be an ever-present figure in Adam’s life. Too bad he didn’t keep that promise…
Devon didn’t plan to let a little thing like his deafness keep him from putting interloper Carmen (Marisa Ramirez) in her place. His confrontation with Neil’s (Kristoff St. John) would-be-mistress and Drucilla’s (Victoria Rowell) tormentor coupled with his subsequent scenes with his adoptive parents netted actor Bryton James the 2007 Outstanding Younger Actor award. He won his second for Outstanding Supporting Actor this past Friday.
Jack Abbott’s searing confession to the dissemination of his marriage, Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) descent into alcoholism, and his near-violent means of dealing with the situation proved worthy of recognition. Actor Peter Bergman won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor for those scenes, which originally aired back in the Winter of 1991.
The week closed with a look back at the scenes that won 9-year-old Camryn Grimes the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress. In said scenes, Cassie made an impassioned plea to a family court judge that resulted in her being placed into the custody of Sharon (Sharon Case) – her natural mother – and Nick (Joshua Morrow).
Hands up anyone else who noticed that among the VHS’s in Dru and Neil’s apartment were recorded episodes of Diagnosis: Murder – AKA the CBS procedural that also starred Victoria Rowell. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
