Surprises And Snubs For Y&R With The Daytime Emmy Pre-Nominations

While sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful has glaring omissions with this year’s Daytime Emmy pre-nominations list, The Young and the Restless did quite well. The top-rated soap earned multiple pre-nominations in all but one of the acting categories.

Y&R scored four pre-nominations (out of 10) in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category with nods going to Sharon Case (Sharon), Eileen Davidson (Ashley), Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea) and Gina Tognoni (Phyllis).

Tognoni won last year in this category. Missing is Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) who had a front-burner story last year as Nikki feuded with Victor, befriended Tessa, and continued her battle with MS.

The show did well in the Outstanding Lead Actor category with nods for Peter Bergman (Jack). The three-time Emmy-winner and fan favorite is Y&R’s only contender in this category. Missing are Daniel Goddard’s repentant adulterer Cane and Eric Braeden’s controlling Victor.

Y&R also earned four spots in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category with slots going to some very deserving contenders.

Elizabeth Hendrickson is for her brief but powerful return as Chloe, Mishael Morgan, who shines brightly as the ambitious Hilary, Marla Adams, who gave both poignant and entertaining performances as Dina, and Camryn Grimes, a standout for her work as Mariah, a woman questioning herself and what will make her happy in life.

In the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category, Y&R is represented by Emmy-winners Bryton James (Devon) and Greg Rikaart (Kevin), both of whom always turn in solid work.

In the Outstanding Younger Leading Actor and Actress categories, Y&R scored nods for newcomers Cait Fairbanks (Tessa) and Lexie Stevenson (Mattie) as well as Noah Alexander Gerry (Charlie) and Tristan Lake Leabu (Reed).

With a total of 15 pre-nominations, Y&R is well-represented in this year’s race.

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
