Y&R spoilers are driving us deeper and deeper down the path of baby Aria having some sort of hearing loss. The expert her moms consulted advised hearing aids and maybe a cochlear implant down the road. Mariah and Tessa are a united front now, but what if, the more they learn about their little girl’s condition, the more they differ on how to handle it?

Y&R Spoilers Speculation

As of now, Mariah (Camryn Grimes) is all for a cochlear implant, like the one her ex, Devon (Bryton James), had to cure his deafness. But she has also already admitted to doing way too much research on the Internet. And you can’t spend too long doing that before you find out that there is a segment of the deaf community that believes forcing an implant on a child separates them from their true, deaf community, and that this is a decision that cannot be left to hearing parents, who are obviously prejudiced towards the hearing world.

Y&R: I’ve Looked at Life From Both Sides Now

What if Mariah comes to the conclusion that they can’t do that to Aria? While Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) can’t imagine not being able to share something as important to her as music with their daughter? That would certainly be a conflict.

It might even go further. Even if they don’t get Aria an implant, Tessa might want to teach their daughter to speak and read lips in addition to signing. Mariah, thanks to her Internet research, could also learn that some members of the deaf community refuse to speak on principle, as well. Both women could be doing what they believe is best for the child they’ve committed to raising, but they could be coming at it from completely different sides.

What do you think? Post a comment!

It would be the best kind of conflict, the kind that comes from character, not outside forces, and one where no one is wrong and both are right…but neither can live with the other’s choices. Think this could happen? Let us know in the comments section below.
