The Young and the Restless spoilers promise a very special episode on Wednesday, October 24 as we flash back to the Abbotts of the 1970s (that would be before any of us met them), to hopefully shine a light on the troubles they’re having almost 50 years later!
The Way We Were
Dina (Marla Adams) has one set of memories about the happy family they all were once upon a time. Her children have another.
Jack (Peter Bergman) recalls John asking him to help look after his sisters after Dina abandoned them. Ashley (Eileen Davidson) remembers her parents fighting.
And poor Traci (Beth Maitland) grew up feeling inferior to her brilliant – and beautiful – siblings, while she was the dumpy duckling.
Which version will this flashback present? Who will be the most reliable narrator?
And will we find out why John agreed to sign a document promising to protect Ashley from being outshone by Jack and Traci at Jabot, if he didn’t know that Ashley wasn’t his biological child?
Wouldn’t it have made more sense to protect Traci, since she was the child least involved with the business?

Or, could it be that John actually knew about Ashley not being his all along? That would change everything! The one thing Ashley clung to was that John died before finding out the truth, so she remained his beloved beauty until the end.
If he knew, would that make it better for her, or worse? On the one hand, she’d know that John loved her, DNA be damned.
On the other, Ashley would need to reevaluate every exchange they ever had.
Also, why did Dina have John draft this agreement when they were married if Ashley was a child then? Did they know she’d one day create amazing makeup? Or, was she a child prodigy?
All we know for sure is that, no matter what, no matter how many times Dina stomps her foot and insists she was a great mother, what she did ensured her daughter would suffer. And that’s bad.
