After months of fans trying to figure out who Claire Grace is and what she wants from the Newmans, Y&R spoilers have suddenly made us all wonder whether Nikki’s treacherous assistant could actually be her granddaughter. Here’s why we’re thinking Claire could actually be Eve Howard (the Second).
Once upon a time, a woman named Eve (Margaret Mason) claimed Victor (Eric Braeden) was the father of her pre-teen son, Charles. Victor, knowing how virile and manly he was, agreed it was very likely. But he didn’t like kids, he didn’t want kids, so, here, take some money and get lost. Eve put Charles in boarding school, and spent some time trying to kill both Victor and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) before being committed to a mental institution.
Charles changed his name to Cole (J. Eddie Peck), came to Genoa City, and, after a fling with Nikki, fell in love with Victoria. Victor would have known who Cole was, but he was in Kansas at the time, presumed dead, and hanging out with Hope (Signey Coleman), Adam’s (Mark Grossman) future mother.
That left it to Eve to try and warn her son he was falling for his sister. But she died first. Luckily, it turned out that Victor wasn’t Cole’s dad, after all, so Cole and Victoria married. It didn’t last. By the time Victoria was pregnant, Cole was kissing Ashley (Eileen Davidson), and Victoria was planning a future with Neil (Kristoff St. John).
Alas, Victoria’s daughter was delivered prematurely. She was named Eve after Cole’s late mother, but she died soon after birth. Or so we all thought. Now, with Cole suddenly popping up at Aunt Jordan’s (Colleen Zenk), we can’t help but wonder if there is much more to this story than we ever knew.
Sure, for those playing along at home, based on when she was born, little Eve Nicole Howard should be older than Adam. And this Claire (Hayley Erin) clearly is not. But since when has that ever stopped a soap story? We’ve got to wonder, did Nikki pay off a doctor to tell her daughter that Eve had died because she wanted nothing to keep Victoria and Cole connected?
Or did a not really dead Eve spirit her namesake away to raise on her own, without the Newmans’ influence? Could Jordan truly be Eve’s sister, who blamed the Newmans for Eve’s death and wasn’t going to let them get their hands on yet another Eve? Was Cole in on it?
Was he kept in the dark as well? How much does Claire know? Does she think her parents didn’t want her? Are Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Cole about to come face to face with the daughter they thought they’d lost? And how will Victor feel to be just a pawn rather than the chess master? Unless this is all his doing, too? Think this will happen? Let us know in the comments section below.
