The Young and the Restless spoilers for April 27-May 1, 2020 reveal a special week dedicated to the majesty of Katherine Shepherd Reynolds Chancellor Thurston Sterling Murphy… as well as her portrayer, Jeanee Cooper.

As a direct result of exhausting their current supply of original episodes, producers have announced plans to present specially themed weeks examining particular characters and storylines.

First up is a curated collection that CBS has dubbed “Katherine the Great,” which promises to showcase some of the late character’s greatest moments – some dating back as far as 1990.

And we can only assume that it was no easy feat for the producers to condense a nearly 23-year period in Katherine’s history into a mere five episodes. The 1990s alone are a gold mine for truly juicy material.

Katherine Chancellor: Busy Bee

Take for instance Katherine’s abduction at the hands of violent grifters and her subsequent replacement by a former hash slinger to whom she bore an uncanny resemblance.

Then there was the harrowing loss that Katherine suffered when her beloved husband, Rex Sterling, was shot dead by a conman who had wooed the estate’s maid, Esther Valentine.

And who could forget the battle royale that she engaged in with one-time companion (and lifelong frenemy) Jill Foster Abbott over the rightful owner of the Chancellor mansion? Phillip Chancellor’s last will and testament said Jill should inherit the lot, Katherine said, “Over my dead body,” and a judge ultimately decided that they should share it!

Oh The Stories You Could See

And as the ’90s gave way to the 2000s and beyond, Katherine remained just as pivotal a player as ever. News supposedly confirming that Jill was the child Katherine had long ago given to an adoption agency resulted in a stroke for the latter – who later hid her recovery in order to test Jill’s sincerity.

Jill’s later insistence on remodeling the home stirred painful memories inside Katherine, who promptly fell off the wagon after years of sobriety. Luckily an intervention staged by the ghosts of Katherine’s loved ones talked her into seeking help.

Among the finest of Katherine’s latter-day story arcs is certainly the revelation that Tucker McCall was her biological child as well as a tender romance with fishing enthusiast Patrick Murphy.

With so many options to choose from, there remain two certainties: not every storyline will get a moment in the sun but the fans are in for five days worth of treats! The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
