The Young and the Restless viewers know that Nikki Newman will do anything for her family. She loves her children, but most importantly, she loves her husband, Victor Newman. By this point, Nikki’s well aware of Victor’s shortcomings, and she regularly calls him on it. However, she also loves and supports him. This week she did a bit of admonishing, advising, and loving. For her performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Nikki’s portrayer, Melody Thomas Scott.
Melody Thomas Scott — Performer of the Week
This week, Nikki not only ran interference between Victor (Eric Braeden) and Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle) but also advised another woman in Genoa City. Although Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) history might’ve been fudged a bit, we adored watching Thomas Scott when Nikki fondly remembered her late friend after Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) asked for advice running Chancellor. We especially loved the dig Nikki managed to get in at Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton) while remaining complementary in the end.
In addition, Thomas Scott brought her A-game when she confronted Victor about his stirring the pot where Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) was concerned. The actress had spot-on expressions when she reacted to Victor’s information about Ashland. Nikki reminded her husband that Victoria was finally happy, and she urged him to leave well enough alone. But, of course, Victor is going to Victor, so we doubt he’ll listen to Nikki’s admonishments.
Nikki also managed to have a few moments at work, and Melody Thomas Scott showcased the character’s business prowess.
Additionally, she really shined during the awkward Valentine’s Day lunch she and Victor shared with their daughter and son-in-law. Again, Thomas Scott perfectly portrayed the uncomfortableness during some of the pointed comments from Victor, especially when it came to Ashland not genuinely being a Locke. Brava on a beautiful performance!
