Soap Hub Performer of the Week for Y&R: Judith Chapman

The Young and the Restless viewers know that Gloria Abbott Bardwell is a businesswoman with a strong personality in Genoa City. So, when she turned up in Phyllis Summers’s Thanksgiving dream, we weren’t exactly sure what we’d get. However, Golden Glo ended up being the gift we never even knew we needed. For that, Soap Hub presents Performer of the Week honors for Y&R on Golden Glo’s portrayer, Judith Chapman.

Judith Chapman – Performer Of The Week

The episode was devoted mainly to Phyllis’s (Michelle Stafford) dream. However, Judith Chapman as Golden Glo managed to steal the show, with some excellent assists from other members of the Y&R cast.

It’s no secret that both Gloria and Phyllis are often outsiders in Genoa City. Because of that, having Gloria escort Phyllis through her Thanksgiving moments ended up creating daytime comedy gold. We enjoyed Judith Chapman and her over-the-top portrayal of the character she’s embodied off and on since 2005. The actress used the gold sunglasses, feather boa, and sparkly gold turban accessories to her full advantage to portray the flamboyant version of her usually colorful character.

Perhaps one of the most incredible scenes of the entire episode happened when Gloria stunned Phyllis by being the person Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) reunited with for Thanksgiving. Gloria’s interactions with the Abbott sisters Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Traci (Beth Maitland) produced perhaps one of the show’s most enjoyable moments. Long-time viewers will remember that the Abbotts have dealt with Gloria as both their father, John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) wife, and Jack’s romantic partner. So when Ashley flashed a hand-heart at Gloria while she and Traci welcomed their old foe to their table, we couldn’t stop laughing. Seeing Phyllis’s shocked reaction also brought a smile.

Seeing Gloria made us realize how much we miss having her in Genoa City on the regular. Does this episode mean Judith Chapman is back for a while? We hope so.
