Genoa City is filled with hypocrites but apparently, Chloe Mitchell Fisher isn’t one of them. After learning of Sally Spectra’s machinations, Chloe didn’t back away from wanting to hire the fashion expert. She compared Sally to not only her pal Chelsea Lawson, who is no saint, but to herself, too. For showing how much Chloe has grown, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors on her portrayer, Elizabeth Hendrickson.
Sally (Courtney Hope) must have thought it was a dream come true after Chloe introduced herself at Crimson Lights. Chloe offered Sally a position but Lauren Fenmore Baldwin’s (Tracey Bregman) former employee halted the negotiations knowing her being let go by Lauren and the reasons why that happened were going to come to light.
Rather than wrap up their talk and walk away, Chloe opted to take another path. She listened to Sally’s story of her fall from grace. Chloe absorbed Sally’s honest version of what had gone down and called it “extreme.” Next, she surprised Sally by saying they should discuss her first deadline. Chloe went on to explain that Sally’s not the first bad girl who set foot in Genoa City.
“I use to be you – more or less,” Chloe shared with Sally. Chloe’s past sins have included letting Cane Ashby (Daniel Goddard) believe he was the father of her daughter Delia Abbott (Sophie Pollono) when she knew Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) was the dad. She also ran over Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) with her car.
“Things change. People change. Now, I have two gorgeous kids and a man [Kevin, Greg Rikaart] who loves me, and the man I loathe more than anything on this earth [Adam] gave me an incredible job with a lot of autonomy — free reign to do anything I want and what I want is to have Sally Spectra’s byline on my site.”
Despite her autonomy, Chloe knew she had to run Sally by Adam. She brought her new red-headed friend over to Newman Media to meet Adam and get him on board. Adam said that Sally was dating his friend Jack Abbott.
“Give Jack a call,” Chloe said with faux confidence, attempting a pre-emptive strike. “He’ll give you all the dirt on Sally. It won’t be pretty, but I don’t care because you told me I can hire whoever I want and I am standing by my latest discovery.”
Sensing Jack and others may give Adam an earful, Chloe hastened to point out an important fact. “Don’t forget if we start holding people to unreasonable standards because of their questionable pasts, you and I are [the] first ones out the door,” Chloe countered with an almost charming tone to her voice.
Recently, Tara Locke was given the bum’s rush out the door by hypocritical folks who’ve done far worse than her misdeeds. Fortunately for Sally, Chloe opted to keep an open mind.
In Elizabeth Hendrickson’s capable hands, we’ve seen that characters including Chloe and hopefully, Sally, are capable of change. At their best, soaps reveal the human condition as the Y&R writers and Hendrickson have reminded us.
