The Young and the Restless viewers know that Traci Abbott serves as the defacto conscience of her family and Genoa City. She’s committed to helping her family become the best it can be, and this week, she turned her attention to her brother Billy Abbott, encouraging him to stop his neverending war with the Newmans. For that convincing performance, Soap Hub presents Performer of the Week honors for Y&R on Traci’s portrayer, Beth Maitland.

Traci’s appearance at The Grand Phoenix when Billy (Jason Thompson) and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) appeared after Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle) summoned them left us pleasantly surprised. We suspect that Maitland delivered versions of lines initially written for Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), and it worked better than anybody could’ve hoped.

Having Traci unexpectedly become part of Billy’s revenge storyline turned out to be just the thing the storyline needed. Beth Maitland truthfully sold Traci’s frustration at the nonsense Billy and Victoria had going on to once again bring down Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). When she showed up at Newman Locke to let Victoria know she meant business, we absolutely loved it. Seeing Traci call out Victoria felt like the type of old-school drama the show’s been missing for a while.

Later, when Billy called out Traci for not believing in him, we nearly teared up right along with her as she emotionally explained herself. However, Beth Maitland truly shined as her on-screen alter ego when she shared a motherly moment with her late daughter Colleen Carlton’s best friend, Lily. We treasured their talk, and we think the show needs to show more of Lily and Traci’s relationship. Maitland’s performance this week felt spot on. We hope to see her more, perhaps in an advisory role for Lily as she begins her new job.
