The Young and the Restless

Soap Hub Performer of the Week for Young and the Restless: Joshua Morrow

The Young and the Restless almost has a secret weapon in its arsenal, which is actually not much of a secret to fans of Joshua Morrow. The actor, who plays Nick Newman, a real-life father of four, excels in stories that involve his TV children. For his performance as a father determined to help his daughter, Faith, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors on Morrow.

Faith’s (Reylynn Caster) temperature wasn’t the only thing rising after she took ill. At the hospital, Nick laid into Sharon (Sharon Case) over her ex, Adam (Mark Grossman), being at the root of Faith’s recent problems. Sharon maintained that there was no proof that Adam was responsible for Rey’s (Jordi Vilasuso) poisoning let alone Faith’s condition. Nick seemed to grow angrier the more Sharon gave Adam the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks to Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) acting as referee, Nick agreed to take things down a notch and stay focused on Faith. He apologized to Sharon for going after Adam.

When Nate (Sean Dominic) told Sharon and Nick that Faith’s kidneys were in danger, Nick was shellshocked. His voice cracking just a bit, he asked Nate what the plan would be. One of the toughest things a parent ever has to do is remain strong so that their child doesn’t start freaking out. Nick and a tearful Sharon gently, but realistically, informed Faith of her diagnosis.

When Nate privately went over Faith’s options with Nick, including dialysis, it was Nick’s turn to well-up. The enormity of his daughter’s condition hit him like a truck. “A transplant…my little girl,” Nick emoted, barely getting the words out.

Nick was apoplectic upon learning that his half-brother Adam was the family member whose blood type matches Faith’s. After discovering that Adam was hiding out in Kansas, Nick’s choice was clear. He needed to find his half-brother. First, in a tender scene, he gently informed Faith that he’d be leaving town to find someone who would help her, purposely omitting that it was Adam given Faith’s feelings towards him.

Then, Nick told Sharon of his plan to find Adam. She offered to go with him, but Nick noted that Faith would need Sharon by her side. It’s hard to inject any kind of playful feel into this heavy story, but Case and Morrow managed to believably do that as they each gently ribbed one another over which of them is Faith’s favorite.

Morrow, a five-time Daytime Emmy nominee, has taken his name out of contention for the award, but given how the actor is delivering the goods in this story, it’s worth giving the matter another thought in our humble opinion. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
