Understandably, Sharon Rosales is tired of going to Genoa City Memorial Hospital on The Young and the Restless, but viewers are thrilled that her portrayer, Sharon Case, keeps getting storylines that send her there. The actress delivered another round of powerful performances as Sharon’s daughter Faith is facing a medical crisis. Time will tell if Faith gets a new kidney but Case is getting another nod from Soap Hub for Performer of the Week.
In the past, Sharon has had Nick (Joshua Morrow) by her side when she’s kept vigil over the bedside of one of their sick children. However, as Nick was in Kansas trying to convince Adam (Mark Grossman) to come back to Genoa City and help Faith (Reylynn Caster), Sharon spent some of this current crisis without him.
It fell upon Sharon to deal with Faith’s concerns about Nick being out of town. When Faith freaked out that Adam might not want to help her because she yelled at him, Sharon did her best to comfort her daughter, pointing out that he already has helped her by bringing her to the hospital.
Faith’s not a kid anymore and Sharon knows it. She can’t deliver too many white lies like she might have been able to in the past. At the same time, Case makes sure that Sharon doesn’t get caught up in the emotion and intensity of her daughter’s condition as doing so could cause Faith to lose hope.
Case played Sharon concerned but calm when Faith freaked out over possibly needing dialysis. Later, when Elena (Brytni Sarpy) informed Sharon in private that according to the specialist, unless Faith started to improve, or if a living donor couldn’t be located, then dialysis was likely going to be necessary. Then, we saw her façade start to crumble.
Sharon apologized to Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) for putting him through so much over Adam. While Sharon’s going through hell right now, there has been at least one good thing to come out of this ordeal — she and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), who has disapproved of Sharon in the past, made peace.
It’s hard to imagine anything giving Sharon a chuckle at this time, but she let out a laugh after Nikki told her that she preferred Sharon to Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) for Nick.
Over the last several months, Sharon has been silently championing Adam. She believes that he’s a changed man even when all the evidence points to the contrary. While he’s done horrible things to her and others in the past, she can’t help but focus on his positive qualities.
Sharon may not voice these opinions often or to Adam’s staunchest critics, but the audience can see clearly what Case is playing and what Sharon is feeling. Sharon’s belief in her ex may have cost her her marriage to Rey. However, Sharon’s choosing to focus on the positive — that Adam’s return may help save her daughter.
