Chance had barely been declared dead on The Young and the Restless before the show announced a recast. And we doubt they are recasting a corpse. So with a new and improved Chance headed home to Genoa City, little Dominic will soon have his mommy, Abby Chancellor, and his daddy.

A Messy Young and the Restless Situation

Does that mean Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), who’s been watching the tot since Abby (Melissa Ordway) dumped the baby almost literally on his doorstep, should step back from the child he fathered? Almost 2,000 fans had this to say:

Volunteers

It wasn’t quite half, but 49% of you suggested that Devon should step back…but that Abby should keep him in Dominic’s life, anyway. We don’t know what state Chance will be in when he returns, and whether he’ll be up to full-time parenting.

Even if he is, everybody needs a cool uncle in the music business. Dominic is a Chancellor and an Abbott and a Newman. But why shouldn’t he have even more advantages in life?

The Young and the Restless Finders Keepers

The name on Dominic’s birth certificate is Chance’s and now that he’s not dead, 37% believe he should be the boy’s only dad. Devon was never supposed to be involved beyond a ceremonial role, this was always going to be Abby and Chance’s baby, and Devon should honor his commitment. If Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) – who did a lot more work – can be shoved aside for Abby’s maternal rights, then the same goes for Chance and his paternal ones.

Son Rise

Devon is Dominic’s biological father, 14% remind, and he has been there for the boy – and Abby – in a way Chance just didn’t feel obliged to. This has gone way beyond a simple sperm donation and gifts at Christmas. Abby made Devon a key player when she asked him to watch Dominic while she went looking for Chance. She can’t expect him to walk away now.
