The Y&R spoilers recap for Tuesday, September 20, 2022, sees Nikki Newman tempting fate in Los Angeles when she contacts Deacon Sharpe for a meeting.
Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) discussed Newman Enterprises’ business, and she told him the huge news she knew about Chancellor-Winters going public. Nick seemed shocked they’d consider something like that, given how new their merger was, but he also realized that Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) was the one who tipped off his sister.

Nick noted that Nate’s move seemed so unlike him because it was so vindictive. He wondered what was in it for Nate. Victoria knew exactly what was in it for Nate — the leadership of Chancellor-Winters. Nick couldn’t believe that Nate would be so unethical and take over the top spot from Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James). Victoria wanted to know if Nick thought it was a good move, but he felt the whole thing was too personal to treat as merely business as usual.
Nick also wondered if Victoria going after the company had something to do with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson). She denied it, but Nick said he didn’t buy her reasoning for even one minute. He pushed back against the plan, noting that it was too explosive, and Nick asked her to run it by their dad. She admitted it was a Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) move. Nick couldn’t give her one solid reason (that she wanted to hear) not to try to buy up the company’s stock when it went public.
Nate ran into Imani Benedict (temporarily Denise Boutte) at Crimson Lights. She told him her dad also collapsed recently. Nate called the doctor in charge of Imani’s dad’s case and found out that her father was suffering from extreme exhaustion. Then, he suggested that Imani go see him, and she hugged him. Imani said she was so lucky to have Nate in her corner, and he revealed that he appreciated how the lawyer had really listened to him.
Imani sat Nate down, and she told him how good a businessman he is. She said that Lily and Billy liked his ideas, and she didn’t want Devon undermining Nate’s confidence. She asked him to reconsider quitting. Nate admitted he walked away prematurely and said he had a lot he wanted to accomplish in his role at Chancellor-Winters. He planned to be there when Imani returned from seeing her dad. Victoria called him to arrange a meeting.
Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) met with their moms at Society. They noted their main goals with business, and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) signed on with the idea of working in harmony and making Marchetti a success.
However, Kyle and Summer laid down the law with their moms. They said neither woman could come to them anymore with complaints. They’re done refereeing Diane and Phyllis’s feud. They warned their moms that if there was one more incident or confrontation, regardless of who started it, they were both out!
Neither Phyllis nor Diane liked their kids’ new rule. However, Kyle and Summer said that there wouldn’t be any exceptions. Kyle pointed out that Phyllis and Diane don’t have to interact that much, and the few times they needed to had to happen. After a brief back and forth, both Diane and Phyllis promised to behave, and then everybody went back to work with a (hopefully) new attitude.
Diane stopped by Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) office to apologize for taking her concerns about Phyllis to Kyle and Summer. Jack asked her if she realized Phyllis didn’t do what Diane had accused her of, but she didn’t admit that.
Diane told Jack about Kyle and Summer’s ultimatum. She said the whole thing felt like a role reversal, and Jack didn’t think their kids were too off base. He supported Kyle and Summer completely, and he noted that it appeared that Phyllis and Diane enjoyed their war too much. He warned Diane not to fall into old habits and not to allow the hate to consume her. She promised to take his advice to heart. After she left Jack’s office, Diane got a text about Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) being in Los Angeles with Talia Morgan (Natalie Morales).
As for Summer and Kyle, they remained hopeful about their moms. Then, they decided to focus on their upcoming vow renewal, and Summer couldn’t wait.
Talia Morgan and Nikki met up in Los Angeles, and the reporter gave Nikki some big news. She noted if the magazine declined to publish her article, she planned to write a book, which Nikki loved.
Nikki promised to give Talia any and all dirt she dug up on Diane after speaking with Deacon (Sean Kanan). Talia also sensed that Nikki’s meeting with Deacon was stressful, and she wondered what was between him and Nikki. The Newman matriarch explained her general sense of caution around Deacon, blaming it on him letting her take the fall for a murder that didn’t happen.
Talia warned Nikki not to let Deacon knock her off her game — after all, they were married at one point. She suggested that Nikki talk out her plan with her before going in to meet with her ex-husband. Of course, all of it was off the record.
Nikki noted that Deacon took advantage of her when she was drinking and under the influence. She said she’s better now and in recovery. Then, she remembered flashbacks of her time with Deacon and how he served her free alcohol. Nikki revealed that Victor moved on with Diane, and she remembered being drunk when she hit Diane in the head with a rock and getting drunker for her wedding to Deacon. Nikki didn’t want to look back at that time in her life, but she decided to do so in order to confront Deacon.
Talia cheered on Nikki in her upcoming endeavor, and Nikki admitted that it felt good to say some of the things out loud. Nikki said their talk helped her remember exactly who and what Deacon Sharpe is — for her own sobriety. After Talia left, Nikki gathered up her courage and strength and texted Deacon where she wanted him to meet her, and he looked concerned.
Look for Victor to push all of Diane’s buttons when they cross paths, and it probably won’t be so pretty. Diane has done a good job of staying reasonably calm since her return to Genoa City, even though she’s had some moments lately where she has started to spiral. However, with Victor doing the button pushing, Diane’s reaction might be a bit stronger, which could give some hints into whether she’s actually a totally changed woman.
Plus, Nikki finally meets with Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) at long last, but will she get the goods on Diane? Check out the daily breakdown below.
