The Y&R spoilers recap for Friday, October 21, 2022, brings a reckoning of sorts for Diane Jenkins as she spills her guts to Jack Abbott about what exactly happened to her in Los Angeles.
Y&R Spoilers Recap Highlights
In Jack’s office, Diane (Susan Walters) tearfully confessed to him that she’d run across Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) while she lived in Los Angeles. However, it wasn’t something she’d wanted, and Tucker had used things she wasn’t proud of against her, but Diane insisted she’d had no choice.
Jack was furious since Diane had lied to him after he’d given her chance after chance to confess. He suggested that Diane would tell more lies, but she promised she was telling the truth. Diane explained that she’d illegally procured documentation for Taylor Jensen. Diane explained how she met Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) shortly after she’d arrived, and she told him that she’d been involved in a series of bad relationships. She remembered flashbacks of her meeting Jeremy — who was a wealthy jet setter — her type, and she fell in love. He wined and dined her in a whirlwind romance.
Diane cried as she said she felt taken care of for the first time ever. Of course, she realized too late, that making her feel taken care of was part of his trick. Diane explained how during their trips, she always flew alone and met Jeremy at the locations, and she eventually discovered he’d used her as a mule to smuggle cash, which somebody had hidden in her suitcases. He sheltered illegal funds to the tune of millions. Jack seemed skeptical that Diane had no idea it was happening, and she said she found out about it once when he was late at the airport, and she got something out of her suitcase, finding the money.
When they returned to Los Angeles, Diane confronted him about it. He didn’t want their relationship to end, but Diane insisted that things were over. Jeremy pushed back by telling Diane that he knew she had the social security number of a dead woman, and he knew exactly who she was. He blackmailed her into continuing to help him launder money. Diane told Jack she was trapped in the situation with Jeremy.
A skeptical Jack wanted to know how Diane got out from under Jeremy’s blackmail. She relayed that he’d invited her to have drinks, and Jeremy explained he was about to be arrested, and then he told Diane to keep her mouth shut if authorities questioned her. Jack thought she was lucky, but Diane said she didn’t feel lucky. Even so, she was saved due to the fact that she and Jeremy hadn’t flown together.

After that, Diane said she got help after getting out of the mess with Jeremy. She made sure that she would be able to get well enough to reconnect with Kyle in Genoa City. Ultimately, she admitted that Tucker was the man in the Bentley because he knew people who’d done business with Jeremy, and he, of course, recognized her. She admitted that Tucker agreed to stay quiet if they helped each other. Diane also revealed that Tucker is the one who found Allie Nguyen (Kelsey Wang) so that Diane could have an in with the Abbotts. All she had to do was keep tabs on Ashley.
Jack seemed upset that Diane had spied on them, but she insisted that she had no choice. She agreed to help him so that she could return to Genoa City on her terms to reunite with Kyle. She sold all of Jeremy’s gifts to buy Keemo Abbott Nguyen’s house, and then Jack knew the rest of it. Jack didn’t know what to say, and Diane tearfully asked him to believe her, and she said she knew that her misdeeds would be discovered by Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) eventually, and she wanted Jack to hear it from her.
Phyllis stuck her head in to check on Jack and Diane, and they dismissed her. Then, Jack left, and when he did, Phyllis goaded Diane. She pointed out that whatever went down didn’t seem good for Diane.
Young and the Restless: Clash of the Titans
Trucker showed up at the ranch to see Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). They made some facetious small talk, and Tucker called Nikki the Grand Dame of Genoa City, but Nikki declined that naming, given it belonged to Tucker’s mother, the late Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper). She surprised him by introducing him to Talia Morgan (Natalie Morales).
Nikki left them alone, and Talia wanted some answers. He told her not to ask about the nasty rumor that he and Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) planned to build a rocket to shoot themselves into space, as billionaires are apt to do these days. Talia didn’t buy it, though. She wanted to know why Nikki had encouraged her to write a profile on Tucker. Tucker said he was happy to get the free publicity from Talia’s writing, but he did warn her that the Newmans weren’t any part of his present plans.
Talia wanted to know if Tucker was getting ready to retire with all his downsizing, or she wondered if he was about to make a big acquisition. He gave her a non-answer but ultimately told Talia that he was clearing a path. Talia asked what Tucker had been up to since returning from Thailand, and he gave her a list of typical L.A. hot spots, but when he mentioned The Brown Derby, she knew he was lying, and Talia left.
After that, Tucker told Nikki to come out, and then he asked her to explain what the whole questioning with Talia was about. He didn’t buy Talia’s questions were for an article. The reporter asking about Tucker’s business in L.A. tipped him off since his business is international. Tucker called out Nikki on the theory that he and Diane are connected. Nikki said she wanted to treat Tucker fairly — out of respect for Katherine. Even so, Nikki knew that Tucker was connected to Diane. Nikki insisted that Tucker tell her what Diane is doing, and that if he doesn’t tell her something Diane might do that would hurt her loved ones, she’d hold him responsible. Tucker said he couldn’t help her.
Y&R Spoilers Recap: Catching Up
Earlier at Crimson Lights, Phyllis and Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) enjoyed a drink together. Phyllis confessed that her plan to get rid of Diane stalled a bit, but it was progressing, especially since Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) were in Costa Rica.
Lauren warned Phyllis that Kyle had fully embraced his mother, but even so, Lauren supported Phyllis’s plan to get rid of Diane. Lauren wasn’t happy at all that Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) had been friendly with her. Lauren pointed out how Diane had wormed her way into Jack’s life, but Phyllis revealed that Jack had started having doubts about Diane due to Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson). Then, Phyllis dropped the Diane and Tucker theory on Lauren, and she said that Ashley telling Jack about the rumor caused him to pause.
Lauren warned Phyllis that Jack would be furious if he found out she was involved in Diane’s downfall. However, Phyllis said she was more concerned about Summer and her friend, Jack, than making sure he wasn’t mad at her.
In Costa Rica, Kyle and Summer enjoyed some adult time in their hotel room after frolicking on the beach. They tumbled into bed and enjoyed each other against the ocean backdrop. After, they discussed how their union was always inevitable. Kyle wondered if their life could get any better, but Summer pointed out that they both had some personal issues. However, Kyle said that all those things were minor, and he owed that to Summer and Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez).
Summer pointed out that it wasn’t true, though. It pained her to say, but Summer said that Kyle having Diane back in his life made him whole. He admitted his wife was right. He thanked Summer for her loyal support and for allowing him the space to figure out his feelings about Diane on his own.
