The Y&R spoilers recap for Wednesday, October 19, 2022, brings a huge confrontation between Nate Hastings and Devon Hamilton.
Nate (Sean Dominic) and Devon (Bryton James) rehashed everything. Nate told off his cousin for his poor management skills. Devon begged to differ and noted that he had a proven track record. However, Nate said he’d love to talk to Devon’s employees because his cousin didn’t know how to delegate or accept others’ ideas.
Devon wondered if Nate was messing with him. Then he condescendingly explained hierarchy. Ultimately, the boss had to make the decisions at the end of the day, and Nate suggested Devon’s ego was shining through. Devon asked where the changed Nate who begged for his job back, and then he noted that Nate didn’t mean it since he just wanted to funnel information to somebody else.
Nate insisted it wasn’t personal, but Devon pointed out that he lost his family and his girlfriend over it. Nate said that his cousin sounded like Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) stalking people and then suggested that Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) might be surprised to find out Devon was stalking his ex. Devon accused Nate of playing the victim. However, Nate accused Devon of meddling in people’s lives. Ultimately, Nate brought up losing the use of his hand, and Devon accused his cousin of not forgiving him, and Nate agreed, saying he’d never forgive Devon. Devon pointed out that Nate had slept with Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy), but Nate said that the punishment — what he lost — didn’t fit the crime.
Nate said that something was going on with Devon — something he hadn’t admitted to himself or realized. He said that getting the job offer at Chancellor-Winters had reinvigorated him and given him hope for the future, but Devon blocked him at every turn, making it impossible to let their past go. In contrast, Devon accused Nate of never accepting that he was a novice at Chancellor-Winters, but Nate said he’d had other executive offers. Devon pointed out that Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) was using him to pretend he had cancer, so that offer didn’t mean much.
Nate took the gloves off, accusing his cousin of inheriting a billion dollars, which allowed him to start a company, but Devon reminded Nate that he’d had other business jobs before that, giving him a track record. Ultimately, Devon talked about how hurtful it was for Nate to try to destroy the company that he’d built with Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John). Nate blamed Devon for not listening to him. Devon went on about his partnership with Neil and what a great guy he was, and Nate said that nobody could ever live up to Neil and Devon couldn’t get passed the partnership he’d had with his father.
Nate picked at a sore spot when he suggested Devon might be worried about betraying his father in letting somebody else shine. Devon tried to leave, and Nate tried to stop him, saying Devon didn’t have to hold onto Neil’s ghost. Devon yelled that Neil cared about family more than anything else and wouldn’t forgive Nate if he was alive, and then he walked out the door with tears in his eyes.

Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) and Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) lamented Nate’s (Sean Dominic) treachery. She told Billy she truly thought that they weren’t like the Newmans or even the Abbotts (no offense). Billy offered to stick around until things got sorted out. However, Lily wasn’t really interested in her boyfriend staying at a job he didn’t want to do. All that mattered was that they’d still be home with each other at the end of every day.
They discussed having to let Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton) know that Billy was leaving, but he said they shouldn’t do that today. Billy and Lily ended up on a video call with Jill, and she wasn’t pleased with what they’d allow Nate to do under their noses. Jill said she was kicking herself for never seeing Nate as a threat, but she noted that she hadn’t worked with Nate day in and day out. Jill wanted to know how in the hell they’d let it happen.
Billy assured his mother that Lily hadn’t been asleep at the job. Jill said that Lily’s approach hadn’t been working, and Lily owned up to the situation. Lily admitted that Nate had shown his hand when he got upset on the previous call with Jill and that they gave him a second chance because he’d seemed sincere. Lily also noted that they’d fired Nate, and no permanent damage was done — yet. Jill appreciated Lily’s problem-solving attitude. Billy got a text from Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), so he left with Jill and Lily’s blessing. After he left, Jill wanted to know what else Lily was concerned about.
Lily admitted her other concern was Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John). Jill could understand her worries, and Lily said there were sharks in the water looking to take over. And yet Jill remained firm in her intention to move forward with the Initial Public Offering.
Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) thanked Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) for texting him about Connor Newman (Judah Mackey). He took over and sat down at the table with his son. Sally said goodbye to the little boy and looked nostalgic as she left Crimson Lights.
Adam asked Connor why he told his mom he’d seen Adam at the coffeehouse when she dropped him off. Connor said he was old enough to wait alone. Even so, Adam told him that they both loved him and wanted him to be safe. However, Connor said that Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) didn’t love him as much as she used to.
Connor complained that his mom was always sad now, and Adam explained that it had nothing to do with him. Connor thought it had something to do with Johnny Abbott (Paxton Mishkind), and Adam tried to talk around it. Connor wondered why Chelsea ever gave up Johnny, and Adam explained it was a difficult decision. To Connor, though, the whole thing didn’t make sense, and he wondered why Chelsea didn’t give him to his Aunt Victoria (Amelia Heinle) too. Adam said Chelsea was in a better place when Connor was born and that he wouldn’t have allowed it anyway.
In the end, though, Adam had empathy for Connor, considering he’d experienced a similar upheaval when he learned Victor Newman (Mark Grossman) was his dad. Adam explained that secrets could be harmful, and that’s why Chelsea finally told both boys the truth. Chelsea walked in while they were talking but kept herself hidden. She listened as Connor told Adam that he wasn’t enough and Chelsea loved Johnny more.
She took that moment to walk in with Connor’s school bag. Connor went to grab a pastry, and Chelsea let Adam know that she’d make things right with their son, but he worried it wouldn’t be that easy. Adam suggested they get a therapist to help their family make sense of it. Chelsea worried that a professional would blame her, but Adam didn’t think that. She agreed but said she felt like a failure. She asked Adam for his support and not judgment, but he reminded her that he’s not the enemy and they’re on the same team. Connor and Adam left to go riding, and Chelsea looked forlorn.
She went to Chancellor Park, and Billy saw her. They spoke briefly, and Chelsea admitted that she was tired of feeling sorry for herself. He gave her a heads-up that Johnny, Katie, and Victoria were headed to the park, and he suggested she leave. She handled it gracefully.
At Newman Media, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) stopped by, and Sally updated him on work, and before he left, Sally let Nick know that Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) had stopped by. Nick apologized for Summer’s behavior, and then they both admitted they’d told his daughter they were just friends.
Sally also said she’d seen Adam, and Nick said he’d seen him on the rooftop, and Sally wanted to know how it went. Nick reported Adam was pissed off, hung over, and in a lot of pain. Nick reported that he and Sally spending time together had taken a toll on Adam, and Nick noted that it’d taken a toll on her too.
Sally explained that she’d sat with Connor, and she said she felt somewhat responsible for the fact that Adam wasn’t functioning well. Nick noted that Sally wasn’t at all to blame. However, Sally relayed how Connor explained that Adam always smiled when Sally was around and that Connor thought they’d reunited. Again, Nick said it wasn’t Sally’s fault, but she said Adam getting drunk last night was a result of her rejecting him, and she cried about negatively impacting Adam and Connor. She said she hated to watch Adam suffer, especially when her life and career was going so well.
Nick noted that Sally still had issues to work out, and Sally agreed. She admitted she loved spending time with Nick, but that she wasn’t fully over Adam yet. Nick agreed that he didn’t want to cause issues for Sally, and he wanted whatever was happening with them to happen at a pace that worked for her and didn’t make things harder for her, Adam, or himself. Nick said Adam’s feelings for Sally were genuine and his brother regretted pushing Sally out of his life.
Nick admitted that they had trouble being level-headed about things, and he said they clearly had a lot of chemistry. However, Nick said that chemistry wasn’t enough. Even so, Sally said she needed to figure out what she wanted.
