The Y&R spoilers recap for Monday, May 9, 2022, brings Ashley Abbott clashing with Diane Jenkins along with the rest of the Abbotts. Meanwhile, Victoria Newman calls out Billy Abbott on his thinly veiled podcast and her parents fret over her. Plus, Allie Nguyen knocks on Jack’s door.
The grilling of Diane (Susan Walters) at the Abbott mansion continued. Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland), Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway), and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) sat alongside Jack (Peter Bergman) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) as they fired off questions. Diane did her best to answer the questions truthfully, but the Abbotts were a tough audience, and they certainly didn’t seem to believe her.
Ashley and Abby certainly wanted more details about Diane’s therapist, and she kept things rather vague. Then, Billy (Jason Thompson) showed up, taking in Diane’s aliveness with a bit of shock. Diane pointed out how Billy changed his life, Abby is a new mom and understands a mother’s love, and Traci’s characters get redemption. Surely if they can understand those things, they could give Diane her chance.
Ultimately, Diane tried her best to convince them she was for real, and she explained what she’d be willing to settle for regarding her relationship with Kyle. However, she also admitted that she wanted a close relationship either in Italy or Genoa City — wherever Kyle ended up.
Before his family meeting, Billy ran into Victoria (Amelia Heinle) at Crimson Lights. She gave him a big what-for over his The Grinning Soul podcast. He tried to deny it was him, but she called him out on all of it.
Later, Victoria went back to her office at Newman Enterprises and took off the necklace that Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) gave her with Billy’s podcast ringing in her ears. Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) walked into the office, returning from lunch. She called them out on talking about their concerns for her throughout the meal — busted.
Then, Nikki noticed that Victoria had taken off her necklace, which seemed significant even though Victoria denied its significance.
After Diane left, Ashley told Kyle that Diane was performing for them. To her, the entire thing was insincere. However, Traci pointed out that Diane was sincere about loving Kyle, but Jack noted that Diane’s love wasn’t the issue. Kyle needed help deciding if he could trust his mother. Abby said she couldn’t be objective, but she felt Diane bringing up Dominic was a big red flag.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Billy said he’d give Diane another chance given the fact that he’s the king of multiple chances. In the end, Traci warned her nephew to be wary of Diane’s claims that she’s completely reformed. Abby and Ashley voted Kyle shouldn’t give Diane a chance while Traci and Billy felt maybe he should.
It all came down to Jack’s thoughts. He urged caution, but Jack also promised to support Kyle’s decision no matter what. Then, the doorbell rang, and Jack answered it to Allie (Kelsey Wang), and Jack invited her in to meet the Abbotts.
Finally, Victor, Victoria, and Nikki prepared to formally kill Newman Locke and return the business back to Newman Enterprises. Victoria left to get something to eat, and then her parents continued their worrying. Nikki noted that Victoria truly loved Ashland, and she’s still grieving. Even so, they did see some happiness in their daughter, and Nikki put it down to her having Victor’s support.
