The Y&R spoilers recap for Friday, August 19, 2022, brings a momentous decision for Chance Chancellor, but he isn’t feeling relieved about it. Also, Diane Jenkins daydreams about a future with Jack Abbott, and Chelsea Lawson gets Billy Abbott to dig deep about his life.
Chance (Conner Floyd) finally decided what to do about the Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) case. Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) convinced him to go to the ranch and tell the family that night, so he obliged.

Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), and Nick were all on edge as Chance went through the two possible scenarios. He let the family know it wasn’t a discussion — instead, he had something to tell them…if they could only be quiet and listen for a few minutes.
Ultimately, Chance decided that Ashland was a terrible man who’d cost the Newmans enough already, so he planned to go with the idea that Ashland got up, got into his car, and died in the ravine. Everyone was so relieved, but Victor also pointed out that Chance couldn’t pursue the other possibility with such flimsy evidence.
Victoria tried to offer Chance a favor for protecting the family, but he turned her down flat. Nick wondered if they had corrupted the most honest man in Genoa City. As for the man himself? Instead of going home to his family, he went to have a drink alone at Society because his decision obviously didn’t sit right with him.
Meanwhile, at the Abbott mansion, Jack (Peter Bergman) and Diane (Susan Walters) enjoyed a nightcap. As they talked, Jack asked her about her plans. Instead of answering, Diane apparently fell into a daydream where she confessed she still had feelings for Jack, and they kissed…oh my.
Of course, that was only a dream (much like Adam Newman’s [Mark Grossman] dream about Sharon Rosales [Sharon Case] when he returned to Genoa City this time), and when Jack got Diane’s attention, she came back to reality. Ultimately, they ended things on a positive note, but kissing certainly wasn’t in the picture.
Finally, Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Billy (Jason Thompson) enjoyed a drink at the rooftop bar. He mentioned that Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) wasn’t too thrilled by how he’d split his time between the podcasts and his Chief Operating Officer position at Chancellor-Winters. Chelsea asked Billy if he was going to quit one of the jobs, and when he noted that perhaps Lily wanted him to quit his COO job, Chelsea thought that was a great idea. After all, Billy wasn’t meant for the corporate world because he needed more creativity than that allowed.
Before they left, Chelsea asked Billy to please speak to Victoria about Johnny, and he warned her that Victoria would need some time. Of course, earlier, Victoria mentioned the idea to her parents, and Victor was against it. At the same time, Nikki felt telling Johnny about Chelsea, and Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) might have some merit.
