The Y&R recap for Thursday, October 27, 2022, brings Nick Newman giving Sally Spectra the bad news that Victoria Newman wanted her gone from Newman Media.
In this episode, Nick (Joshua Morrow) fired Sally (Courtney Hope), and later, he went to his mom Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) to complain, but she was pretty happy about it. Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) also told a depressed Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) to stay away from Johnny Abbott (Paxton Mishkind). Sally kept it classy with mean girl Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford). Finally, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier), and Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez) enjoyed their family vacation. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.
Nick sat Sally down on the patio at Crimson Lights to tell her that Newman Enterprises decided to replace her and Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson) at Newman Media. Sally only had one question — was her firing from Victoria or Nick? He let Sally know it was management, but he admitted it was Victoria’s call.
Sally blamed herself a bit for missing that meeting, but she’d hoped she’d proven herself. Nick admitted he’d tried to get Victoria to keep her by fighting like hell for Sally, and she said that meant a lot to her. Nick felt terrible, but Sally reminded him it was a trial run. Sally said she’d be okay and she could take it, so she would just roll with the punches. Ultimately, Sally was proud of what she achieved as CEO of Newman Media, and now it’ll be on her resume forever. Of course, she wasn’t happy about Chloe losing her job too.
At Newman Enterprises, Victoria extolled the virtues of Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) to Nikki Newman. While Nate hadn’t accepted, Victoria assured Nikki that she had a pile of suitable candidates. The main thing was Sally is out, which didn’t make Nikki sad at all. Nikki expressed her fondness for Nate, and she supported Victoria’s plans, but she wondered about Nick’s advocacy of Sally.
Victoria let Nikki in on her belief that Sally and Nick had started an affair, and not surprisingly, Nikki was aghast. Nikki wondered at her son’s poor choice of women, especially given her history with Summer, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman), and even Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman). Nikki hoped that Sally would take the news with a modicum of grace. Victoria reminded Nikki that Nick is a grown man who can date who he wants.
Talk turned to Johnny Abbott (Paxton Mishkind), and his feelings about learning Chelsea is his biological mom. Victoria relayed her little boy didn’t even want to see Chelsea, and she said she felt the same too. Victoria had to leave early so that she and Johnny could go watch Katie Abbott in her Halloween parade appearance. After that, Victoria had some mother-and-son time planned with her son, which Nikki thought was a great idea. Victoria noted that Chelsea did a lot of damage, and she would work to help Johnny heal. Nikki offered their family’s help should she need it.
Nick showed up, and he told his mom that firing Sally was a mistake. He figured Nikki was on Victoria’s side, but Nikki declared they were all on the same team. Nikki called out Nick on his association with Sally outside of work, but he tried to say it wasn’t anybody else’s business.
Nikki lambasted her son for choosing Sally and giving Adam another reason to resent him even more. Nick said he wasn’t worried about Adam, though. He went on and on about how well Sally and Chloe had done while they were in charge. He expressed his concern about Nate also lacking experience. Ultimately, Nikki reminded her son that Sally is a survivor and she’ll land on her feet.
Chelsea was alone in her hotel room, and she reached out to Chloe with a phone call. She wanted to get together, but Chloe was out of town with her kids, so a respondent Chelsea grabbed her keys and left. She went to Chancellor Park, where she ran into Phyllis Summers.
Phyllis lamented seeing Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) every day at work, and she told Chelsea that her turning down the Marchetti designer gig was for the best, and not surprisingly, Chelsea took it wrong. Phyllis pointed out that Chelsea not going to Marchetti was their loss, and she complimented the designer. After all, if things weren’t right, then the job wasn’t for Chelsea. Then, Phyllis talked about selling her hotel, but Chelsea tried to cut their chat short.
Phyllis could clearly tell something was up with Chelsea, and she kept trying to talk to her. She asked why Chelsea and Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) had stopped the podcasts, but Chelsea told her it was time to move on from that too. Phyllis assured Chelsea that she’d find something soon, and Chelsea thanked her, wishing her a happy Halloween.
After Phyllis left, Chelsea sat alone on the bench. Johnny walked by, and Chelsea said hello to her son. Victoria was right on his heels, and she wondered what was going on. Both Victoria and Johnny were rude about Chelsea being in the park, and then he left for Crimson Lights, and Victoria stayed behind to talk to Chelsea.
Victoria told Chelsea clearly that she was grateful to her for bringing Johnny into the world. She reminded Chelsea that Johnny was having a tough time, though, and she asked Chelsea not to exacerbate the situation. Victoria accused Chelsea of pushing for more of a relationship. She told Chelsea that Johnny’s choice was clear, and she asked her not to talk to Johnny anymore. Victoria left, and Chelsea looked heartbroken.
At Society, Sally sat alone at the bar, remembering her time at Newman Media, and she wondered what she would have to do to prove herself. She also called Chloe and left her a message to let her know what had happened. Phyllis walked in and overheard, and then she walked up and sat by Sally, wondering if she was having a bad day.
Phyllis asked if the seat beside her was taken, but Phyllis sat down anyway. She offered Sally a drink, but Sally declined. Sally wanted to know what Phyllis’s problem was, and Phyllis kept on goading Sally about her bad day. She hinted that everybody has problems at work, and then she said Sally deserved whatever ones she had. Sally didn’t agree, and she said her track record spoke for itself, but Phyllis said it was a short track.
In the end, Sally told Phyllis to leave before things go ugly. Phyllis listed the facts — she was with Adam, and it blew up. Sally warned Phyllis there was so much she could say, and it’d even be gratifying. Instead, though, Sally kept it classy and walked away.
Summer and Kyle welcomed Harrison Locke to their honeymoon with the promise of tons of fun activities for the next few days. A storm came and rained on the happy little family’s parade, so they had to return to their villa. The parents produced a big basket of Halloween candy, toys, and games. They decided that next year they’d take Harrison trick or treating and dress up for the holiday.
Harrison went for a nap after a bit, and the happy couple enjoyed a bit of alone time. Summer talked Kyle into a massage that was about to turn into a lot more than that when Harrison interrupted, so they had some family time instead. Harrison expressed his desire to live there forever, but they talked about how great home is.
