Now let’s take a deeper look at what happened.

Young and the Restless: A New Direction

At Glam Club, Daniel walked in, and Phyllis screamed in joy as she hugged her son. She didn’t realize he planned to come for Thanksgiving, but Daniel said he wanted to surprise her. Phyllis and Daniel sat on a couch, and she took some selfies while admonishing her son for not coming home to see her more often. She admitted that last Thanksgiving sucked terribly because she was alone. She seemed to forget that Jack called her from Spain to share the meal.

Daniel was stunned his mom wanted to meet at a club instead of going to a fancy restaurant. However, Phyllis expressed her desire to have fun and go out, saying they could meet Summer for dessert. Daniel asked his mom how it was to work with Summer at Marchetti, and Phyllis changed the subject. She asked where Lucy and Heather were, and he admitted that Heather got a gig working in Portugal, and Lucy went with her. Phyllis found that surprising, and she wondered why Daniel didn’t go.

She didn’t buy his explanation, and Daniel admitted that things with his relationship had been rocky for a while, but he didn’t want to get into it. Phyllis mentioned things had been fine in June when she visited, but she promised not to pry, and she reiterated that she and Summer were always there for him. She asked about his plans, and Daniel kept it vague by saying how he planned to take things in a new direction.

Y&R Recap: Family Ties

At Crimson Lights. Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), Sharon, Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks), and Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) prepared for Sharon’s annual Thanksgiving meal for the less fortunate in Genoa City. They mentioned Christian Newman and Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster), explaining that Christian was working on an art project, and Faith went to her college roommate’s house for the holiday.

Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Johnny stopped by to volunteer, and then Chelsea and Connor walked in, which was awkward. Victoria was shocked to learn that Chelsea lived in the apartment above Crimson Lights. After Sharon gave everybody tasks, Victoria checked to ensure Johnny was okay. Victoria tried to get the skinny on why Sharon offered Chelsea the apartment, but Nick didn’t know. Victoria suspected something else was going on.

On the patio, Connor updated Johnny about Chelsea having to go to the hospital. He warned Johnny not to be mean to Chelsea. Johnny felt awful about how he’d treated Chelsea. Connor relayed that Chelsea’s issues weren’t about him or Johnny, but Johnny wasn’t quite sure that was true.

In the main room, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) walked in, and they chatted with Victoria. They updated each other on their kids, and Lily excused herself to go talk to Chelsea. She expressed her hope that Chelsea was doing better, and she wanted to know how things were going for Chelsea. Chelsea expressed that Billy had truly saved her life.

Johnny walked in, and he and his dad said hi. Johnny revealed that he knew what happened with Chelsea, and he worried that he had hurt Chelsea’s feelings, but Billy insisted he hadn’t. Johnny wanted to talk to Chelsea, and Victoria reluctantly agreed he could. Billy offered to go with him, but Johnny said no.

Lily left when Johnny walked up to talk to his biological mom. Johnny apologized for his reaction to learning that Chelsea was his biological mother. She thanked Johnny for saying it, but Chelsea also explained that her problems were not his and he wasn’t to blame for anything. She apologized for putting Johnny in an awkward position. She expressed her hope that they could be friends.

Victoria was shocked that Chelsea had been in such a fragile state. Billy apologized for not telling her, but Victoria had some empathy for Chelsea. Even so, Victoria took her ex to task for not cluing her in. Billy explained it wasn’t his story to tell, and Victoria accepted that. Billy talked up how helpful Sharon had been. Victoria reiterated that their son had to be her top priority despite how sorry she felt for Chelsea. She worried it was too heavy a topic for a kid. Billy pointed out that Johnny was handling the whole thing with empathy and maturity, and he suggested they follow his lead.

Lily went over to Sharon and expressed her gratitude for how she’d helped Chelsea, but Sharon also said Lily deserved lots of gratitude too. Lily hoped that things would be calmer.

Sharon asked Mariah and Tessa if they had an update. They explained that the birth mother who’d been looking at them actually had a cousin who would take the baby, so it wasn’t the best news. Even so, they managed to keep a positive attitude about things.

Victoria asked Johnny how things went with Chelsea, and she expressed how proud she was of Johnny. At the same time, Billy talked to Chelsea and asked how her conversation with Johnny went, and she explained what transpired. She said the little boy only knew the bare bones of what happened. Billy asked Chelsea what she had going on, and she said that they were meeting Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). Billy invited her to dessert at Devon’s, and she said she might.

Y&R Recap: Family Drama

Abby seated Victor and Nikki at Society. They were all surprised to see each other there on a holiday. When Victor said he’d see her, Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd), and Dominic at the ranch later, Abby dropped the shocker that she and Chance were having problems. Nikki seemed stunned that Victor didn’t have a clue what happened.

Devon walked in, and Abby was happy to see him. He explained that Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) wanted to meet to share a holiday meal. Abby said seeing Devon’s face made her feel calm, and Devon was glad he could do something for her. He asked after Chance, and Abby admitted that her marriage was probably over.

Abby asked Devon how he was doing, and he said he was hanging in there. Victor and Nikki walked up, and they all greeted each other. Abby walked them out and said she’d have to skip the family dinner at the ranch.

Outside, Victor and Nikki ran into Tucker, and Victor warned him to get out of town. Tucker declined and wished them a happy Thanksgiving. Inside, Tucker apologized for not sharing more holidays with Devon, and he expressed his desire to be a regular part of Devon’s life. Nate and Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) walked in, and Devon looked annoyed.

Elena suggested they go somewhere else, but Nate refused. Instead, he walked right over to Devon and Tucker to say hello, but Devon wasn’t at all willing to be cordial. Tucker told Nate off about his plan and insisted he leave Devon alone. At their table, Elena was incensed that Tucker had treated Nate that way, and she expressed that Nate and Devon should work things out without Devon’s absent father.

Devon told Tucker that he could fight his own battles, and Tucker said he was sorry. Ashley showed up and he excused himself to see her. Ashley explained that she was forced to share a meal with Diane, and she said she couldn’t take it anymore and expressed they had to bring down Diane.

At the Abbott mansion, Traci looked upon the perfect table. Ashley was thrilled to share the day with the family as were Summer, Kyle, Allie, and Jack. Then, Diane walked in, throwing a wet blanket on things. Allie tried to diffuse the tension, and Diane took Jack aside, and he admitted he’d warned Ashley to cool it on the animosity, but he warned her not to read anything into it. Then, Harrison came in, wishing everybody a “happy turkey day.” He passed out some handprint turkeys, which everybody loved.

Diane asked what Phyllis was up to, and Summer said Daniel had come home and she would see them later. Kyle asked about Abby, and Ashley gave an update, complete with a jab at Diane. Jack interrupted, asking if Noah would stop by, and Allie said he would. Traci asked her sister to please let them enjoy Thanksgiving, and then Jack updated that Billy and Lily would be late due to helping with Sharon’s dinner.

Jack invited everybody to go around the table to say what they were thankful for this year. Everybody did just that, and then Jack specifically asked Diane. She said she was thankful for being part of the family as well as Kyle and Harrison. Later, Jack gave a toast, mentioning John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) and Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) sitting at that very table.
