The Y&R recap for Friday, January 6, 2023, brings disagreements, loyalty tests, new experiences, a breakup, a makeup, and so much more.

Y&R Recap Highlights

Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) continued their disagreement over Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). Meanwhile, Diane met with Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) while Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) worried. Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) and Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) expanded their horizons as Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) decided to call it quits. Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) carefully hid her pregnancy from Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). Now let’s dig deeper into what happened.

Y&R Recap: Dangerous Plans

Kyle let Summer know he was none too happy about her plans to take their son out of the country. Summer said it was a short trip and nothing permanent. Kyle didn’t buy it, though. He blamed it on the chaos with his mom, which he said was necessary. However, Summer wondered what was next since they got in deeper every day.

Summer wondered why Kyle felt so sure that this plan would be the end. He continued defending his mom and their plan, but Summer said that the whole thing was risking all their safety. Summer insisted that she needed some relief from everything that was going on, and she let Kyle know that Harrison could tell something was up.

Kyle thought Harrison would also notice a sudden trip to France, but Summer insisted she could make it a fun adventure. Then she asked Kyle to come with them to Paris, but he declined. He did have the sense to realize that the whole situation was coming between him and Summer, though. She didn’t want anything to come between them, and Kyle admitted that it wasn’t Summer’s fault, blaming it on Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) being upset — which offended Summer.

Kyle said Phyllis brought chaos to town, but Summer said Diane’s criminal ex-boyfriend would’ve tracked her down anyway. They continued arguing a bit but then decided to stop. She once again asked Kyle to accept her trip, and he declared he loved her but hated all of what was happening. They shared a sad kiss.

On the Crimson Lights patio, Jack got a text message from Diane, and he was spaced out when Sharon came by. He played it off by saying he was worried about a friend. As time went by, Jack anxiously texted Diane for an update because he needed to know she was okay.

At Glam Club, Diane met Jeremy, and she laid it on thick. He’d ordered her favorite champagne, and she appreciated his compliments. They reminisced about their past exploits, and then Jeremy got down to business. He noted that they couldn’t do things the way they used to since the Feds would be onto them instantly. Diane declared they were both clever enough to figure something out.

Jeremy suggested traveling separately, and then Diane pointed out that there were opportunities in Genoa City without even traveling at all. She had some ideas for a new target, and so did Jeremy. He thought Glam Club would be a perfect money laundering venue, but Diane immediately shot it down, noting that Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) leased the space from Chancellor-Winters, making it connected to lots of power players.

Jeremy questioned her commitment to their reviving their partnership, but she just said she knew the town. Diane again reiterated how nice it’d be to officially be back together, but Jeremy said Diane had to pass his loyalty test first. He took her to task for leaving the last time, and she tried to placate him. Jeremy suggested that they share a suite — for cost reasons. Diane said their partnership would be successful enough to not need to cut costs.

Jeremy noticed that she was more confident than she used to be, but Diane played it off as worrying about her real identity being exposed. She said that she’d officially put her family on the line for Jeremy, but he said he had to look out for himself, which meant any partnership would require an act of loyalty. Diane agreed, and she wanted to know what he had in mind — something outrageous and dangerous. It had to be something that could land her in prison, and he wanted her to surprise him.

Diane met Jack on the patio at Crimson Lights. She updated him on the whole thing. Diane dropped the bombshell that she and Jack needed to find a crime for her to commit. She described the loyalty test, but Jack said she was playing with fire. Diane suggested she should steal something of considerable value, and Jack suggested taking something from the Abbott safe.

However, Diane thought that was too easy, and Jeremy would suspect a setup. She needed a victim who wouldn’t ever help her out — like Phyllis. Jack pointed out that would be a big mistake. That led Diane to suggest they steal from Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott).

Young and the Restless: Difficult Decisions

Inside at Crimson Lights, Sharon was looking anxiously at her phone, hoping to hear from Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) about meeting the birth mom. Chance showed up, and Sharon shared some of the details with him, and he was excited. She asked how Chance was doing, and he responded with some work woes, but she wanted to know how he was doing personally.

Chance told her honestly that his life was weird right now, and he was working hard to establish all new habits. Not seeing Dominic every day and spending family time together really bummed Chance out, and Sharon understood his feelings. She suggested that they eat together, so they got Ethiopian takeout and brought it back to the coffeehouse. Sharon enjoyed her first foray into Ethiopian food.

Sharon suggested that they start a private supper club, but Chance said he’d be okay without it. Even so, she wanted to do that since they were friends, and Chance ended up making plans for the next week.

At Society, Billy and Lily looked shell-shocked after their first therapy session. Billy talked about how hard the whole thing was, and he suggested a new therapist, but Lily wondered if Billy disagreed with anything their therapist said. Billy admitted that unfortunately, the therapist was on point, and Lily also agreed that they didn’t need a therapist who lied to them. Billy and Lily both just wanted to process the whole thing.

Lily pointed out that they already knew what the therapist said, and Billy agreed. She said they have so little common ground that they were destined to end up wrecked. He suggested that they not sink too far into despair, and they tried to salvage the night. Lily leaned her head on Billy as they decided to get a drink. Ultimately, she decided to leave — alone. Billy said they would be okay because they’d do whatever it takes. However, Lily suggested that they be honest, and she said they didn’t need to keep doing what they were doing. She said they couldn’t keep doing it, and tearfully kissed him goodbye. As she left, she got a text from Daniel Romalotti (Michael Grazaidei), asking how the therapy session went.

Y&R Recap: What Pregnancy?

Nick showed up at Sally’s hotel room. He thought she might be ghosting him, but Sally quickly threw things away. Nick wondered what it was, and she said it was drafts of her upcoming presentation. He offered to look at them, but she declined. Nick hoped Sally’s health had improved.

Sally said she was fine, but admitted that her proposal might be what made her seem off. Nick suggested Sally take a break, and he offered to take her to dinner. However, she declined, so he offered takeout, and Sally reluctantly agreed. Nick kissed her and left to grab the food. After he left, Sally dug the first-trimester literature out of the trash and ripped it up, and she shoved it back in.

Nick showed up with nachos and guacamole, and Sally was thrilled. She declared Nick the perfect man. That led to lots of kissing and the bed. After, Sally wondered if Nick still worried she was ghosting him, and he invited her to “ghost” him in the shower. Instead, she set up their meal while he showered. Unfortunately, smelling the food made her nauseous.
