The Y&R recap for Thursday, December 29, 2022, brings Diane Jenkins closer to Jack Abbott, Danny Romalotti spending time with the old gang, Lily Winters making a tough call, and Sally Spectra trying to sort things out.
The New Year’s Eve countdown began and things in Genoa City heated up. Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) fell for Diane’s (Susan Walters) scheme and Jack swooned over her bravery. Sally (Courtney Hope) asked for a pregnancy test knowing it would change everything. Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) rang in 2023 with her dearest friends as Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) had his heart broken. Let’s take a closer look at what happened.
Over at Society, Jeremy turned down Diane’s offer flat – at first. No-go, he said. She needed to pay. Diane offered to lay all the cards on the table and tell him the truth. Jeremy asked if she ratted him out to the FBI. Diane denied the accusation and tried to sweet-talk her way out of it.
Now, why would she do something like that when she was also on the run? She even said she missed the excitement of working with Jeremy and suggested they try to get back that magic. Jeremy wasn’t sure at first and took some convincing but in the end, agreed to think about it.
No sooner did Jeremy take his leave than Jack surprised Diane. He wasn’t going to let her do this alone, he said. Jack commended her performance and Diane enjoyed his accolades. She felt dirty, though. Jack took her home to talk things through. She felt better with Jack around, she said. Diane appreciated all his support. Jack was pleased to be the one to give her a second chance. He gave her an even bigger ego boost by taking her into his arms for a passionate kiss.
Traci was pleasantly surprised to run into Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) at The Grand Phoenix and share some New Year’s Eve drinks. They were happy to have Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) – and later Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) join them too. He invited them to a concert and they asked if he was staying long enough to see Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell) and Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) when they got back to town. Danny sure hoped so.
Upstairs, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) had all the things to cure Sally’s illness. Or, at least the illness she thought she had. She thanked him and promptly sent him away. She then called Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson) over to talk about her possible pregnancy. Not only was she freaking out about the possibility of being with child, but she was also in a panic about who the father is. Both Nick and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) were possibilities. She asked Chloe to grab her a pregnancy test. She needed to know.
Later, Nick went to Crimson Lights where he and Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) hugged to celebrate his birthday and the New Year. Nick consoled her about it being her and Rey Rosales’s (Jordi Vilasuso) anniversary. Sharon wondered why he wasn’t out celebrating and Nick said Sally was sick…and didn’t know it was his big day. No biggie, though. The two exes rang in the New Year together in a booth.
Chelsea tried to bond with Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) while building his egg project but he thought it was lame. Couldn’t he just use the one she and Billy already built? No. No, he could not. Connor then commented on how cool Billy was. Almost immediately after he said that, Adam showed up to join in the non-fun. It was not so fun for Adam either, especially after Connor told him how much Billy makes his mom smile.
As for Billy, he met up with Lily Winters at the park to ring in the new year. She was less than impressed with his scaled-down date and told him so. Wasn’t he supposed to plan something special? Lily talked about the time he was spending with Chelsea. She was doing her best to understand and be supportive but recently realized she wasn’t the issue. Their problems were there before Chelsea, too. Heck, just look at how much he’s slacking even after agreeing to therapy. Lily then asked for some time apart. She didn’t want to break up – yet, but she needed space.
Adam and Billy came face to face at Crimson Lights and had it out a bit on the patio. Adam demanded Billy leave Chelsea alone and stormed out. He barely made it out the door when Chelsea and Connor came down for some hot chocolate. Billy decided to join them. He left Chelsea’s apartment shortly after the clock struck midnight.
