The Y&R recap for Friday, December 16, 2022, brings lows and highs for one Genoa City mother, some family traditions, a secret plan, and so much more.

Y&R Recap Highlights

Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) returned to Genoa City, and he and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) got started on their plan to get rid of Jeremy Stark (James Hyde). Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) confronted Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier). Her son Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) got hired by Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), and he later made his mom a job offer. Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) enjoyed a movie night before Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) stopped by. Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) made sure to save some ornaments for Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) to put on the tree while Ashley enjoyed coffee with Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John). Now let’s take a deeper look at what happened.

Young and the Restless: Return

Kyle and Summer had a happy reunion at the Abbott mansion, and they started going through ornaments and telling stories behind them. Traci and Jack joined them, and they kept up the ruse in front of Traci that Kyle had been on a business trip. Traci acknowledged that Christmas would be difficult with Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) gone.

Summer suggested egg nog, and Traci left to help her. Jack and Kyle quietly discussed how they would end the threat to Diane. The women came back in, and they looked through ornaments, and Jack found one from his mother that he hoped to give Allie Nguyen (Kelsey Wang) when she got there. Traci was missing an ornament that Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) had given her, so she went to find it.

With Traci out of the room, Kyle updated Jack and Summer on Diane’s sadness over leaving town. Summer apologized once again for her mother’s actions. She suggested that they go to the police, but Jack warned that Jeremy was too smooth to get caught, and he said he and Kyle would see their plan through. They decorated a bit more, and Traci left. That was Jack and Kyle’s queue to leave too.

Kyle and Jack went to Jeremy’s hotel room, and it almost instantly became a fight when Jeremy said something snarky about Diane leaving town. Kyle played bad cop, while Jack played good cop. They both insisted that Diane was gone, and they didn’t know where she was. Jeremy ascertained that the two men may have hidden Diane away, but Kyle denied it by pointing out how upsetting Diane leaving was for his son. Once again, Jack offered to reimburse Jeremy. The man didn’t make any promises but said he’d consider it.

Summer showed up at Jabot/Marchetti, and she wasn’t happy to see Phyllis there. Phyllis was cleaning out her office, and she wondered if it was legal to be fired for something she’d done on her personal time. Summer expressed her desire for them to be able to be a family again, but Phyllis wasn’t at all willing since her daughter fired her as an act of solidarity with Diane.

Phyllis pointed out that she sold her hotel so she could work for Summer. She also said she was trying to protect Summer and that moms get messy hands protecting their children. Phyllis said Diane was a liar and not trustworthy. Summer yelled at her mom for hurting and betraying her because Phyllis was solely focused on driving Diane out of town.

Young & Restless Recap: A New Beginning?

At Crimson Lights, Tucker and Ashley enjoyed some coffee together. They talked about his offer to help Ashley hang out her own shingle. She didn’t quite believe that Tucker wasn’t still after Jabot. In fact, she thought he might be trying to protect her before he pounced on her family business. Tucker wished she’d just take him at his word, but he had done too much for her to do that.

Tucker compared Ashley to John Abbott (Jerry Douglas), and he said she was the only one who had it in her to be a maverick like him. She wasn’t quite sure why she needed Tucker then, and he admitted that she didn’t. Ashley had to leave, and she thanked Tucker for a lovely and surprising day.

Y&R Recap: You’re Hired

Earlier, Devon and Lily had great news for Daniel — he was hired at Chancellor-Winters. Even Devon was gung-ho about things. They seemed a bit surprised that Daniel didn’t already have a team in mind for the job. Lily reassured Daniel that they intended to support him. He went on about how immersive and meaningful his platform would be — Omegasphere wouldn’t just be a way to pass the time.

Daniel shocked them once again by revealing he wanted to make an announcement about it in March. He promised Devon and Lily that he could be ready, but Devon suggested they not rush things. Daniel promised he could do it. Devon left, and Lily said she needed to go too.

Phyllis showed up at Crimson Lights, and she wasn’t too open to talking to Tucker. He gave her a bit of advice. Just then, Daniel showed up, and they went out to the patio. Phyllis announced that she wasn’t working at Marchetti, and she tried to blame it on a difference of visions, but Daniel didn’t buy it. He noted that his mother was free and clear, though, and he invited her to work with him.

Daniel told Phyllis all about his big deal with Chancellor-Winters and his gaming platform. She was thrilled to hear about it, and he admitted that he needed a heavy hitter he could trust to manage the day-to-day stuff to let him focus on the big picture. He pointed out how Phyllis was a gamer and an old-school hacker, which made her perfect.

Inside, Lily met Billy, and she wondered how Chelsea was doing. He said she was good, but he wasn’t happy that Adam had shown up. Lily noted that he thought he was the only one who knew what was good for Chelsea. Billy countered that Lily sounded hostile, and Lily agreed. However, she denied that their problems weren’t just about Chelsea, and she suggested that they go to couples counseling. Billy took it as Lily thinking he was headed off the rails, but she said it wasn’t about him but them. He agreed to do that after the holidays.

Kyle, Jack, and Summer met up at the Abbott mansion again, and things got awkward when Ashley showed up. She wanted to know what was going on. Jack noted that all they were doing was trimming the tree, and they showed her the ornaments they’d saved for her. She retired upstairs to take a bath. Summer asked how things went with Jeremy, and they all worried that Jeremy wasn’t trustworthy. Kyle said he wanted to go to the cabin so that Diane didn’t feel abandoned. Summer didn’t like it, but Kyle insisted.

In his hotel, Jeremy talked on the phone, saying he still had business in Genoa City.

Y&R Recap: Recovery

Earlier at Chelsea’s, she and Billy enjoyed a movie night. They ate popcorn and laughed, but Chelsea suddenly got tears in her eyes, and he noticed. Chelsea and Billy sang Auld Lang Syne and laughed. She told Billy the world had been gray, but she was seeing color again and appreciating life. She also noted that Christmas would be more meaningful for her this year after everything she’d been through. She also noted she had a gift for Johnny Abbott (Paxton Mishkind) and hoped that he and Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) could spend some time together.

As she and Billy talked, Chelsea answered a knock at her door, and it was Adam holding lots of presents. As Adam came in, Billy left, and they made plans for their next movie night. Adam wanted to discuss the holidays, and he assumed Chelsea wouldn’t want to go to the big Newman gathering. However, Chelsea said she wanted to go.
