The Young and the Restless recap for Tuesday, September 5, 2023, brings Daniel pointedly asking Phyllis to butt out of his business to prove that she’s really changed.

Young and the Restless: Match-Maker
Daniel (Michael Graziadei) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) caught up at a table in the jazz lounge where she let him know that her new job seemed up in the air. Heather (Vail Bloom) eavesdropped as talk turned to how things were with Lily.
Daniel admitted that seeing Heather threw him for a loop, and he had some regrets. Phyllis advised her son to make amends with his ex…the same way Phyllis was making amends with him, but Daniel didn’t quite see his mother’s actions that way.

Daniel accused Phyllis of pushing him toward Heather because she didn’t like Lily, but Phyllis said she just had a special affection for Heather. Speaking of, Heather walked up and reluctantly joined the table. They all talked about how Phyllis had faked her death right there, and then they chatted a bit about Lucy.
Heather admitted she enjoyed the pro bono work she’d been doing in town, but she’d have to hand off her cases soon due to school starting. Phyllis wondered if Heather missed living in the States, and Heather said she did, noting that she missed both Savannah and Genoa City. Phyllis thought it was great that Daniel’s ex considered both places home, and she gave her son a pointed look.
Heather left, and Daniel called out his mom on her matchmaking attempts. He reminded Phyllis he was with Lily and told her to prove she’d changed by not meddling in his love life and respecting his boundaries.

Young and the Restless Recap: Lily Shares Wise Words
At Crimson Lights, Lily (Christel Khalil) and Billy (Jason Thompson) chatted. He wanted to know how she was doing, and Lily admitted that Heather sticking around Genoa City concerned her. Lily felt concerned that Daniel would be drawn to his ex since they were still so new.
Talk turned to Billy missing Chelsea and Connor. Then, he said things at Jabot were in flux. Lily listened as Billy told her about the Abbott family drama. As they talked, he admitted he should be the one in charge as the only sane person. Lily advised him not to go to war with Jack and said he should consider WWDD — what would Dad do — noting that both Neil and John were great businessmen. Billy thanked Lily and said he knew what to do.
Later, Lily walked into the GCAC and saw a pensive-looking Heather. She asked Heather if she was okay, and the lawyer said she’d just had a long day and went upstairs to her room.
Y&R Recap: A Friend In Need
At the GCAC, Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Devon (Bryton James) talked. Tessa was out of town doing appearances for Marchetti. She wanted him to give her the worst-case scenario for Aria’s hearing loss, and Devon resisted. He wanted to focus on the positives. Ultimately, he let her know the worst case was nothing worked, but even then, there was sign language and other tools to help Aria communicate.
Devon signed some words for Mariah, which perked her up. She thanked him, and before they left, Devon suggested that Mariah and Aria stay at the Chancellor mansion with him and Abby. Mariah resisted, but ultimately, she agreed. Later, Devon helped her and the baby get settled at the mansion.
