The Young and the Restless recap for July 13-17, 2020, features a dip into the soap’s archives and look back at the oh so complicated (and sometimes hilarious and sometimes tender) lives of the Fisher-Baldwin family.

The Young and the Restless Recap Highlights

Last week, drama and romance during the summer months were the themes du jour. The previous five days have been a look back at moments where members of the Baldwin-Fisher family – Michael (Christian Le Blanc), Kevin (Greg Rikaart), Gloria (Judith Chapman) and even Lauren (Tracey E. Bregman) – were front and center.

People Are Capable of Great Change

Nowadays, he’s presented as a fumbling, do-gooder, a super father and a doting though kowtowed husband. But once upon a time, Kevin Fisher was a bad, bad man.

He was a sexual predator who coerced the underage Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) into sleeping with him – infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease in the process – and he was a crazed psychopath who imprisoned Colleen Carlton inside a restaurant’s walk-in freezer and then set the establishment alight.

And since his baby brother reminded him of his own nefarious past – never forget that Michael was a sexual harasser who then burrowed his way into his victim’s apartment with much malice aforethought – Michael refused to offer either his legal services or finical support. Luckily, it all worked out well for both of them.

The Truth Always Outs

But it took a long, long time. And there needed to be impetuous for some brotherly bonding. Enter Gloria, the boy’s free spirted, cash-loving mama. She managed to snag herself a multi-millionaire and he just so happened to be a man that she actually fell in love with!

But Gloria had a big problem: how could she explain to John (Jerry Douglas) that her sons were the men who made life hell for his one-time step-daughter (that would be Christine, who was the object of Michael’s unwanted advances) and his granddaughter (that would be Colleen, the would-be pig from Kevin’s DIY luau)?

In the end, Gloria decided that she couldn’t. So she lied her tail off. Then Ashely (Eileen Davidson) caught her and it was finally time to face the music. Luckily, John was able to conditionally forgive his wife’s errant offspring…but he never forgot their trespasses.

Papa, Can You Hear Me?

Aside from the wonder that was John, Gloria had terrible taste in men. Terrible Tom (Roscoe Born) anyone? One of her earliest mistakes, cult leader/guru/political activist/terrorist Lowell “River” Baldwin, left her with one of her greatest joys: Michael.

But when father and son came face to face decades after River scuttled off for parts unknown, it wasn’t exactly a meeting full of warm and fuzzy memories.

Good News/Bad News

Thursday’s presentation helped to prove that doom and gloom are more easily handled when it’s accompanied by a soupcon of good news. So even though Gloria may go to jail for accidentally killing a woman with tainted face cream, at least she’ll go to the big house with the knowledge that Lauren and Michael have a little one on the way. If only they knew the heartache that Fenmore would cause once he was rapidly aged a decade or more.

Merry Christmas To (Almost) All

Christmas is a time for good cheer and it presents an opportunity to be kind to your fellow man…unless that person is named Chloe Mitchell (or Katherine Tina Valentine if you want to be technical).

Gloria can abide by a lot of things, but Chloe isn’t one of them. That girl hurt Kevin far too many times for mama bear’s liking and if she had her way Chloe would be tossed out on her ear.

By the way, does Gloria even know that Kevin and Chloe are currently expecting a baby? The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
