Rating the Replacement: How Rory Gibson Rates As Noah on Y&R

Young and the Restless newcomer Rory Gibson celebrated his 26th birthday earlier this week on November 22, and since his debut on Tuesday, October 12 as the soap’s newest Noah Newman, Gibson has made us take notice.

Rory Gibson as Noah Newman

A daytime newcomer, Gibson showed up in the middle of a major storyline — Noah’s Aunt Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) wedding in Tuscany. It must have been awkward to jump right into the deep end as Noah. The scenes had so many cast members, but Gibson handled it like a pro.

Noah immediately had rapport with his sister Summer Newman Abbott (Hunter King) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). He even managed to share some scenes with his ex-girlfriend, Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks). Overall, with the younger set, things went well.

He and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) also had a wonderful reunion that ultimately led to Noah’s return to Genoa City. The new Noah also had moments with his grandparents, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott).

The only people missing were his mother, Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case), and sisters Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) and Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster). However, he saw them upon his unexpected arrival to Genoa City.

The Good

While Y&R’s previous Noah, Robert Adamson, did an excellent job as the Newman grandson, one thing we love about Gibson’s version is he’s more age-appropriate. The two actors have a more than 10-year age difference, and we buy this Noah as Mariah Copeland’s younger brother.

Rory Gibson is cute and charming on-screen as Noah, and he seems to fit right in with Sharon and his Newman family. We can picture him as part of the family, meaning he’s believable as their offspring.

The Future

Much of Noah’s storyline since Gibson took over consisted of giving advice and reassuring people. There’s also the somewhat mysterious reason for leaving behind his artist lifestyle in London.

While we’re not totally sure Noah told Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster) the whole truth about his big London breakup, we do find elements of Noah’s current storyline intriguing. We want to know more about his zoning out entirely when Sharon talked to him because we’re not entirely convinced it’s just his artistic nature like he said.

Rory Gibson hasn’t had a meaty storyline just yet as Noah, but we’re looking forward to seeing him sink his teeth into something more substantial. So far, so good for Gibson  — and we can’t wait to see more.
