Why Jack Abbott Is Giving Diane a Second Young and the Restless Chance

No matter how much Phyllis Summers screams and fumes and accuses him of being deaf, dumb, and blind on The Young and the Restless, Jack Abbott keeps insisting on seeing the good in his son’s mother. Phyllis doesn’t understand it. Do you? Why is the usually level-headed businessman going down this path?

Jack Abbott: Sound and Fury

Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) likes to think that everything is about her. And, in this case, 39% of the audience agrees with her. Jack’s (Peter Bergman) actions, according to you, are because he’s mad at Phyllis and trying to upset her. She should take some comfort from that.

Young and the Restless: Who Knows?

We have no idea, 27% confess. Nobody’s actions in this story have made sense from the beginning. Not Phyllis’s over-reaction, not Jack’s under-reaction, not Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) lack of curiosity about what his mother was up to all those years she let him think she was dead. Maybe we’ll get an explanation at some point down the road. That point is obviously not now.

Y&R: Chances Are

Jack got second chance after second chance from his dad, 24% of you remind. He also got them from Kyle and from his siblings. Jack is just paying it forward, giving Diane (Susan Walters) the benefit of the doubt, treating her the way he’d want to be treated, and any other platitude you can think of.

Jack Abbott: Love Me Do

Only 10% of voters think it’s because Jack is still in love with Diane. Remember, she was the woman Jack was in bed with on his wedding day, the one who made his first wife, Patty Williams, lose her mind. Unless Diane turns out to be the love of Jack’s life, that will all prove to be worthless and paint Jack like the ultimate cad. And that’s just not who he wants to see himself as.
