Why Is Phyllis Losing It So Badly On The Young and the Restless?

For weeks, we felt like we were the only ones who noticed that Phyllis Summers was clearly losing her grip on The Young and the Restless. First, it was her insanely out-of-proportion reaction to her precious daughter moving out of town, then it was her literally screaming and ripping her hair out at the news that Diane Jenkins was still alive.

Finally, even Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) admits that she’s out of control – after Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) called her on it. Why the tantrums and meltdowns?

Self Sabotage

This is just how Phyllis is, 61% of you shrug. She is her own worst enemy. Sure, Phyllis may have whined to Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) that this is all Diane’s (Susan Walters) fault, that she’s the one making Phyllis act this way, she brings out the worst in her, she’s the one triggering Phyllis into falling back into old habits. But, the fact is, those old habits were there long before Diane showed up. And her behavior is all on Phyllis.

Young and the Restless: Not My Fault At All

Phyllis is one hundred percent correct, 34% are lining up behind their girl. She was a calm, rational, sensible, and well-balanced woman… until Diane showed up. Who wouldn’t go crazy over a woman coming back from the dead?

It’s ridiculous! No human being has any frame of reference for how to deal with that! As for her shrieking and breast-beating over Summer (Allison Lanier) abandoning her mommy… well, that was also Diane’s fault. Somehow.

Check Up

Phyllis should see a doctor, 5% advise. She could be physically ill, and the symptoms are expressing themselves psychologically. Maybe she has a parasite. Or a brain tumor. Yeah, that’s the ticket, a brain tumor. That’s a soap opera “get out of jail” card. She can do anything now and get away with it!
