On The Young and the Restless, Johnny Abbott is the biological child of Billy Abbott and Chelsea Lawson. Not because they had a relationship. Not because they had an affair. Not because they had a one-night stand.
But because Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) drugged Billy (Jason Thompson), raped him, then blackmailed him — before selling Johnny to Billy and his then-wife, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle). Sexy, huh? No wonder almost 2,000 voters have some very strong feelings about the possibility of Billy and Chelsea falling in love:
If Billy is going to break up with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), the woman who he claims finally gets and supports him in a way no one ever has before, then 35% of the audience would prefer he boomerang back to Victoria like always. It’ll be better for Johnny than any of the other options.
Or he could stay with Lily, an almost equal 33% of fans interject. He says she’s everything he ever wanted. So why not hang around and appreciate it for a while?
Victims falling in love with their rapists is so 1980s, a furious 27% of you seethe. Just because we didn’t see it, just because it was a woman raping a man, instead of the other way around, that doesn’t make their past any less disgusting. Billy falling for Chelsea would set an awful precedent. And seriously, turn us off.
Only 5% are intrigued by the idea. Forgiveness is the cornerstone of soaps. Like how Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) was able to forgive Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) for faking a terminal illness. And Nikki was able to forgive Victor for faking Chloe Mitchell’s (Elizabeth Hendrickson) death. What a great way for Billy Boy to show that he’s an even bigger man than Victor! And for Chelsea to show Adam that he should have forgiven her for that silly little murder-framing gag.
