Billy Abbott and Chelsea Lawson just cannot stop telling each other how wonderful they are on The Young and the Restless. Billy tells Chelsea what an inspiration she is. Chelsea tells Billy what a support he is. Billy tells Chelsea how brilliant all her ideas are. Chelsea tells Billy how brilliant all of his ideas will be. It’s a love fest, sure. But is it a romance? Should it be?
This is the best new couple in Genoa City, 30% of you cheer. Billy (Jason Thompson) is no longer the spoiled, selfish, childish addict he’s been for decades, and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) isn’t the conniving, gold-digging con she came on as. They’ve both grown up and changed, and now they are ready for the love of a lifetime.
They are on the right path, 33% of fans are willing to agree, but they are not quite there yet. It all depends on how this story is handled. Billy’s entire role cannot be just keeping Chelsea from going off the deep end, and Chelsea’s can’t be devoted to boosting Billy’s ego. We need to see how they operate not in crisis mode. Can they handle the day-to-day doldrums, or will boredom drive them both back to old, bad habits?
That’s a big nope for 37% of the audience. We don’t care how many roofs Billy pulls Chelsea off, and we don’t care how many podcasts she co-hosts with him. Chelsea raped Billy. Raped. Raped. Raped. Not seduced, not tricked, not lured. Raped. That’s what you call it when you drug someone into incoherence and then have sex with them. No matter which gender is involved in which role. And this is why a love connection is out of the question. The end.
