Peter Dinklage is a film, theater, and television actor who is best known for his work as Tyrion Lannister in the HBO series, Game of Thrones as well as throttling Will Ferrell in the Christmas classic film, Elf. He also starred on a soap.
Along with his iconic work, Dinklage has also appeared in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Station Agent, and Avengers: Infinity War. From where he was born and raised to breaking a major record, here are five fast facts about the actor.
Dinklage was born on June 11 in Morristown, New Jersey. He was born with achondroplasia, which is the most common form of dwarfism. Dinklage started acting in the fifth-grade when he was cast in a school play. He attended Bennington College, where he graduated with a degree in drama.
Soap Beginnings
Following graduation, Dinklage moved to New York City to start a theater company. However, he ended up working in data processing for six years before he pursued acting full-time. After a few appearances in television shows and films, Dinklage was cast as Morlin on As the World Turns.
Two Times the Fun
Dinklage was cast to play Peter in the British film Death at a Funeral, which came out in 2007. The movie became popular and an American version was given the green light. While the rest of the cast in the US version is different from the British version, Dinklage returned to play the exact same role of Peter.
Dinklage has won four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series thanks to his incredible work as Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones. He officially broke the record for the most wins by an actor in that category in Emmy history.
Getting Personal With Peter Dinklage
Dinklage married theater director Erica Schmidt in 2005. The couple has a daughter, who was born in 2011, and another child in 2017, but the notoriously private couple never revealed the name of either child nor sex of their second baby.
