On The Young and the Restless, Abby and Chance were talking about having babies before they were talking about getting married. They basically saw each other as a means to a mutual end. They went ahead and exchanged vows – for appearance’s sake – then talked some more about babies. They kept talking about babies right up until Abby (Melissa Ordway) learned she’d never be able to carry a child to term.
The Young and the Restless Polling
That’s OK, Abby said. We’ll get a surrogate. Mariah (Camryn Grimes), can we borrow your uterus? My eggs, Chance’s sperm, and… not so fast, God said. Chance can’t father a child either. Oh, and he has to leave. For an indeterminate amount of time.
After all that, should Abby still go ahead with the surrogacy? What almost 3,000 fans had to say:
Boycott Baby
This was one of our closest votes in a while, but, in the end, 51% of the audience went with, “No.” Think about it: Having a baby on your own is hard enough. Having a baby while your husband is God knows where for God knows how long? Even harder. And then there’s the nature and nurture piece.
Chance was OK with using a sperm donor because he’d be the one to raise the baby. But if he’s not the biological parent, and he’s not there when the child is growing up, then how does this have anything to do with him at all?
Gestation Go!
On the other hand, 49% of you are urging Abby to go for it! Micro-managing Mariah’s pregnancy will give her something to do to keep her mind from dwelling on Chance and what he’s going through. And what a surprise to come home to! Phillip Chancellor the 5th, anyone? Heck, maybe Abby will even break down and go with Dashiell. Or Agatha… The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS.
