Y&R’s Christian Le Blanc Says Fans Tipped Him Off To His Cancer

It wasn’t that long ago that Michael Baldwin fought cancer on The Young and the Restless, and now his portrayer, Christian Le Blanc, has revealed that he, too, has had to face the dreaded disease. A tip from fans actually started him on his journey.

Christian Le Blanc Is In Remission

The actor talked about his recent battle with multiple myeloma during an interview with Eric Paulsen on CBS affiliate 4WWL. He mentioned how it came to his attention. “They didn’t know until after this surgery, but there was a tumor right here [pointing to the middle of his forehead, above his eyebrow line] pressing on my optic nerve…but the fans caught it.”

It was a good thing, too, because it caused the actor to get checked out. “Sometimes this eye kind of got a little wonky, and there was a tumor in the sinus cavity…if I hadn’t gone in for an eye exam because I thought, well, this eye, it might have progressed more. It’s a very fast cancer, and that is the danger of it.”

He went on to explain more about it. “It’s cancer and easily attacked and easily spotted once you get in there…these were neurologists. My eye doctor just said you might go, your eyes a little droopy, might go check it out with a neurological ophthalmologist, which I’d never even heard of.”

Luckily, they were able to get it done quickly. The signs had been there. He’s lost 35 pounds quickly, and there was a prop on set that really clued him into his dramatic weight loss. “They put my wedding ring on that Lauren and Michael’s wedding ring, and I put my hand down, and the ring fell off without friction,” he said. “My nose started bleeding on set.

“I was diagnosed around June at Santa Monica’s…Saint John’s Providence Hospital, which I’d never been to,” he added. “I’ve never spent a day in the hospital in my 65 years until this year.”

This diagnosis and treatment explains why the actor’s on-screen alter ego, Michael, had to suddenly go help his mother, Gloria (Judith Chapman), out of a legal jam when he’d been so involved in Phyllis’s (Michelle Stafford).

The host mentioned that Le Blanc was now in total remission and back on the show. His first show back? It will be the Thanksgiving show, which seems very appropriate. Soap Hub is grateful that Christian Le Blanc is back to full health and on the show.
