It’s been a while since Drucilla went over the cliff on The Young and the Restless, and she was presumed dead. Actress Victoria Rowell recently helped celebrate the daytime drama’s 50th anniversary, and she spoke to the impact Dru had on viewers.
Rowell recently shared an Instagram post with a photo of herself as Dru with Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) beside her.
“I’m CELEBRATING all the PEOPLE who embraced #Drucilla and told me my character was more than aspirational, she was REAL, meant something deeper to them, their Grandmother, Mother, Father, some migrating folks who learned English watching — I made you laugh & cry but Dru inspired the impossible & reflected the underdog, the underrepresented,” she wrote in the caption. “Getting to the center of anything means hard work but WE did it together! THANK YOU🙏🏽 [CBS] [Sony Pictures] [Paramount Plus] [Young and the Restless]”
Hundreds of fans replied with positive words about Rowell’s portrayal of the iconic daytime character, who was married to Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John).
One wrote, “THANK YOU for breathing LIFE into Drucilla. Please understand that none of your hard work, tv presence, and fight for more Black presence/equality on the show went unnoticed! A legend and inspiration to us all! Because of you, no one will ever forget THEE Drucilla Barber- Winters!!!!”
Many others expressed their desire to see Dru return from the dead, much like Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) recently did. “[Victoria Rowell] every week I watch [The Young and the Restless] I hope is the week you’re discovered in a convent with amnesia, or wake up from a coma in a small town hospital. Drusilla not being on daytime television is an injustice. I severely hope one day, at least for us, we see your return to Genoa City,” one ardent viewer wished.
Victoria Rowell attended the big party celebrating Y&R’s 50th, and she shared several photos there, which you can see below.
