Aristotle Dumas is finally here. Cane Ashby unveiled himself as the reclusive billionaire on The Young and the Restless. He had everyone coming, including his ex-wife, Lily. However, this storyline could allow the characters to start anew.

Give Cane a Chance

In an interview with TV Insider, Christel Khalil asked Y&R fans to give Billy Flynn’s portrayal of Cane a chance. It’s only been a few episodes. Flynn made his debut on the Thursday, June 19 episode. Khalil doesn’t want fans to expect the old Cane to come back. He’s new and improved, without his signature Aussie accent.

“At the end of the day, it’s not going to be the same Cane. It’s a completely different person, and I really hope that everybody gives Billy a chance and tries to look at the character through new eyes, because it is a new person, and honestly, it’s a new character,” Khalil shared.

The goal was not to make Cane like Daniel Goddard’s portrayal. It’s as if the character underwent a personality adjustment. “The point was to make this character something completely different. And hopefully people give it a chance and look at it like a new relationship rather than like an old one coming back,” she added.

What About Lane?

Khalil talked about the new dynamic between Lily and Cane, which will allow them to move forward in a new way. “I feel like the story is very compelling, and I think if fans can look at it with a new lens, they’ll really like it.” Cane’s appearance will bring up complicated feelings for Lily.

“It’s the first time in Lily’s life that she’s single, and she’s invested in working with Devon (Bryton James) and Nate (Sean Dominic) and just really focused on business,” Khalil explained. She teased that Lily “doesn’t have a guy in her life,” however, Damian (Jermaine Rivers) has taken a keen interest in her. What’s also interesting to note is that Cane was his boss the entire time, and he didn’t know it.

Khalil explained that romance is the last thing on Lily’s mind, especially when it comes to her ex. “As of right now, no, absolutely not. She’s very disturbed by his behavior and how he’s lied and kept secret and what he’s hidden from the kids and what’s he hidden from her, and the fact that she finds out he was working with his dad, Colin (Tristan Rogers), who is a very bad person,” she shared.

It’s safe to say that Cane and Lily are never ever getting back together. “It’s never happening,” the soap star concluded. What are your thoughts on Flynn’s portrayal of Cane? Are you looking forward to more Cane and Lily scenes? Let us know in the comments section.
