On The Young and the Restless, March 2, Claire is convinced that Audra wants to ruin her life, so she wants to beat her at her own game. She was desperate to learn Audra’s secret, but she returned from Los Angeles empty-handed.

Meanwhile, Audra doesn’t understand what Kyle and Holden see in Claire. The reality is that Audra sees her younger, more volatile self in Claire. Meanwhile, Claire sees the cold, calculating woman that she’s afraid of becoming.

The obsession they have for each other reflects their own ambition.

Key Takeaways

  • Audra isn’t just fighting a rival; she’s fighting her own past.
  • This isn’t a battle for Kyle’s heart; this is a battle for image and reputation.
  • Claire fears turning into the cold, corporate machine that Audra has become, while Audra fears seeing her younger, more vulnerable self in Claire.

Why This Isn’t Another Y&R Catfight

Audra (Zuleyka Silver) isn’t taking on another rival. She’s fighting the unpolished, volatile version of herself. That’s the real reason she fears Claire (Hayley Erin) finding out her secret. She doesn’t want to confront her past self.

Claire didn’t just lose Kyle. She’s afraid of becoming the cold, calculating corporate woman that Audra now represents. While both have claimed the other is “obsessed” with the other, they are both to blame. They’re using Kyle (Michael Mealor) to prove who “owns” the Newman-Abbott orbit.

The Projection Game

In Monday’s episode, Claire warned Kyle about Audra’s obsession with him. Also, Audra told Holden (Nathan Owens) that Claire is the one who can’t let go. Meanwhile, the Y&R viewers are debating who’s “right” in this fight.

The reality is that both women are projecting their own insecurities onto each other. They see aspects and qualities of themselves in the other.

Audra sees her younger self in Claire, while Claire sees a future of emotional detachment in Audra. This is especially true as she explores her newfound freedom outside Holden or Kyle.

Kyle is the Trophy, Not the Goal

Audra and Claire aren’t romantic rivals. They’re not after Kyle’s heart. Rather, they want to control him. Audra sees Kyle as a strategic anchor and a way to stick it to the Newmans.

For Claire, Kyle is her anchor to the “normalcy” she’s desperate to hold onto. Neither woman is obsessed with him. They are obsessed with what he represents in their individual quests for status and stability.

Claire and Audra have different views of status. Claire finally identifies herself as a Newman, but she fears the corporate battles and the work machine. Meanwhile, Audra is a social climber who scoffs at the Newmans and Abbotts, but still sees herself as one of them.

The Alpha Newman Struggle

Claire ended up as the blood-related Newman heiress whom Audra detests. But she’s still trying to fit in with her family and the residents of Genoa City. In the meantime, Audra is an outsider who has mastered the family’s “killer instinct.”

She knows how to work her way in. But then, when she gets pulled into the Newman madness, she quickly finds herself on the outs. Claire and Audra can’t coexist in this world. There’s only one room for a “power player” in this circle, making their mutual obsession an inevitable byproduct of ambition.

The Final Verdict

The truth is, they’ve both stopped chasing Kyle and started running toward a mirror. They found that they are the two sides of the same coin.

In a town where power is the only currency, you can’t have the legacy heiress and the corporate grinder in the same social circles without one of them getting crushed. Kyle is just the trophy they’re using to keep score.

Even if they reach a truce, don’t be fooled. A truce is only a chance for them to reload, so they can attack later. As you can see, this town isn’t big enough for both of them.

Is Claire just Audra 2.0 in the making? Or will her Newman blood give her the edge to finally run Ms. Cortes out of town?
