It’s another Newman family holiday on The Young and the Restless, and a Newman is missing yet again (one among a few missing Newmans). For Thanksgiving, Reed Hellstrom didn’t come home. He didn’t go to his Aunt Abby’s wedding, and he didn’t come home to meet his newly found sister, Claire. It’s been a long time since Reed has been in Genoa City. He was last there in March 2020.

Reed is the son of Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and J.T. (Thad Luckinbill). Tristan Lake Leabu has portrayed him since he was a teen. Reed’s early storylines revolved around his parents’ turbulent relationship. After J.T. was granted custody, Reed lived away from Genoa City for much of his childhood, creating a distance between him and Victoria.

He returned to the canvas as a teenager in 2017. Reed struggled to connect with Victoria and navigate life as a member of the Newman family. Music became a central aspect of Reed’s character. As an aspiring musician, he showcased his talent for songwriting and performing, which gave him an identity outside of his family drama.
However, Reed found himself part of Genoa City’s darker moments, too. Reed took it hard when J.T. became abusive toward Victoria. This revelation led to J.T.’s apparent death, which hurt Reed as he tried to reconcile his memories of his father with the man who had hurt his mother. Of course, J.T. wasn’t actually dead, but the teen certainly thought he was. (Here’s the last time J.T. was on Y&R.)
In late 2018, Reed’s storyline reached a turning point when he accidentally hit Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) with a car while driving in poor weather conditions. Overwhelmed with guilt, he confessed his actions but ultimately left Genoa City to attend a music program.
Since then, Reed’s character has remained offscreen almost entirely. Despite occasional mentions, his storyline has not been revisited, leaving fans to speculate about his future. Currently, Y&R does not have any confirmed plans for Reed to show up in town. Of course, there have been times when Reed being there would make sense.
